This case concerns a company by the name of Actors Equity, an employee and Bank of New York. In 18 Actors Equity were in search of a new comptroller. After reviewing applications, they chose Nicholas Scotti as their new comptroller. In his application, he stated that he had held various financial positions with reputable companies. Actors Equity chose to offer Mr. Scotti the position without contacting previous employees and conducting a background check.


Actors Equity maintained a checking account at the Bank of New York. Within the first six months Scotti forged the signature of the appropriate employees on four checks totaling $100K. All checks were made payable to N. Piscotti. The bank paid the checks. Once Scotti resigned Actors Equity conducted some research and they found that Scotti's real name was actually N. Piscotti. Actors Equity sued the drawee bank to recover the $100K.


In this case Scotti did not act ethically. First, he lied about his real name. Second, he inflated his resume to seem as if he had an extensive job history with reputable companies. Third, he lied about having a criminal history in order to be considered for the new position. Fourth, he forged the signatures of company employees to enable him to cash the checks under his real name. Fifth, he cashed the checks knowing that the money was not rightfully his.


There are many items to consider when deciding if Actors Equity should have sued Bank of New York to recover the forged checks. The bank does have a duty of care when conducting business for a customer. As far as the bank was concerned each of the cashed checks were valid. Each of them contained proper authorizing signatures from Actors Equity. When the checks were presented, the presenter had proper identification to satisfy the validity of the check. The forged signatures were of professional quality. As far as the bank is concerned they did nothing out of the ordinary and certainly did not conduct themselves negligently.


Actors Equity had a great deal of negligence on their part. If this company had conducted a contact to Scotti's previous employees, they would have discovered that he was not employed with them and certainly not as a comptroller. With a simple check on this person they would have discovered the most important thing, that this person's name was not Nicholas Scotti, but it actually was Nicholas Piscotti. Another area that they failed to consider is their internal controls in regards to checks. If Actors Equity would have had a better system to ensure checks validity before they are released, the check might have been caught before they were drawn.


When considering forgery and negotiation of invalid checks the onus falls on the party that had the greater opportunity to prevent the fraud. In this case it was Actors Equity. They failed on several occasions to prevent this and failed to do so. As far as the law is concerned, they have no recourse to go back to Bank of New York and recover the amount of the forged checks.


In this case The Bank of New York wins. They conducted themselves correctly in the cashing of the checks. The Quakers actively protested against it, the Presbyterian Church made several formal declarations against it, and the Methodist Church opposed it as an evil institution. Abraham Lincoln also opposed slavery. He was perhaps the most influential in abolishing slavery, he started the civil war between the Union (north) and the Confederates (south) in order to give black slaves their freedom. In 1865, the US Congress approved the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, to abolish slavery. After the conclusion of the Civil War, slavery was abolished throughout the entire US. Through the actions and leadership of people like Martin Luther King, Jr., many improvements have been made in the area of human rights in the US. Racial equality is still constantly improving.

I have decided upon several goals, three of which I believe is more obtainable and most advantageous and beneficial to me at this time in my life. I want to obtain a degree. I want to increase my knowledge of a subject that is conducive to my pursuit of life's comfort and happiness. And, I want to make practical the standard I teach my daughter, which is, education first.

William of Orange would be considered a politique because he assisted greatly in the Compromise of 1564 in the Netherlands. Also by helping and persuading the northern Protestant regions of the Netherlands to join with the southern Catholic regions of the Netherlands to help eliminate Spanish rule.


Political survival was the top priority of all politiques of the time. Religion had been a problem for far to long. By having a ruler that was not so involved with having their country all one religion, the politiques believed that the political view of their country would be changed. All three rulers saw, during their reign, that such change did indeed occur. Henry of Navarre's edict made sure of the beginnings of religious freedom in France, and Elizabeth I continued that tradition in England. This separation of these countries' religions from that of the ruler was a great step in the establishment of what would become the American tradition of separation between church and state. William of Orange was a Protestant in a very Catholic country. His flight to the Netherlands brought about the Compromise in the Netherlands that helped them eliminate Spanish rule of the Netherlands.


With their leaders not overly concerned about religion, the common people, artists and musicians were allowed to express themselves in many more ways than previously. The Baroque period in architecture and music was a combination of extremely ornate and very simple styles. The Catholic church and the rulers who subscribed to that religion built ornate and elaborate churches, while the politique rulers allowed poets, musicians and other craftsmen freedom to express themselves in ways that would not have been allowed under a strict religious reign.


In conclusion, the politique attitude of self-preservation helped pave the way in 16th Century Europe for the coming of the next wave of reform. The willingness of the rulers to place their political careers before their religious beliefs allowed the culture and economics of their respective countries to survive and even thrive. The Baroque style of architecture, art and music, brought about by the Catholic Church to protest the plainness of Protestant worship and belief, provided work for the common laborer as well as the many artists and musicians of Europe. The legacy of rich art, music and architecture is still ours to enjoy.

Jamal is seperated from William in the crowd, the minute Forrester realizesa that Jamal has disappeared, he gets panicky and finds a closed off space to hide in until Jamal appears again. At the end of the movie, William comes to Jamals trial to speak on his behalf and the viewer then realizes that Jmal did make a breakthrough. Secondly, I believe in a ay Forrester founf Forrester. As I stated earlier in the paper, William learned to embrace life. He learns to believe in himself enough to write another novel and dedicte it to Jamal. Whatever fear it was he had preventing him from interacting with the outside world, he finally overcame it and even went back to Scotland to be with his family.It is my belief that if Jaml had not met William or vice versa, William would still be in his apartment hiding behind his window.


In this film I could see myself in Jamas shoes rahter than Williams. Jamal maintained a c average just enough to get by. My family situation is also similar to his. I come from a single parent home. My younger brother could be so much more than what he is now but he is satisfied with his position in life, so who am I to judge?


There is only one facto that would affect the outcome of this movie if Jamal was white and Forrester was black, that one factor is Richard Crawford. Professor Crawford was a bitter blowhole. He couldnt write so instead became a english teacher. Ironic or just me? He gave Jamal alot of grief over his work. Not wanting to admit that just because he was black, that didnt mean he was there just because of a basketball schlorship. I think that with all the pressure that Crawford gave Jamal, he didnt do anything but make Jamal want to strive harder to prove Crawford and anyone else who doubted him wrong. Keg Party



One of the most risky things I ever did was throw was a keg party while my parents where out of town for a church retreat for the weekend. People were starting to come in slowly, but by the time it was 1000, there must have been 40 people. Already, 1 keg was gone. By 1100 we had used up the nd keg and there were around 70 people. People were doing beer bongs, drinking games, hooking up, and doing some drugs. While other people were in the upper part of my house making out, and watching movies, I had trance and go-go music playing. They were starting to be noise and people where chilling in the street. A couple of people ordered pizza and had it delivered to my house and also some Chinese food, but when they came no one paid for it. The delivering person got really mad, and I had to pay for it. I wasn't in a good mood then but that's a part of life. They were people started to pass out in my back yard and all over house then at 110 I did another head count and there were 1 people and the rd keg was almost gone. I told one of my boys to bring out the back up of hard liquor out. So me and 0 people had a shot contest. We played the quarter game. I was pretty drunk and I was pretty happy that I could pull something off like this. Around 10 or so the cops showed up and everyone ran all over the place and tried not to get caught. I had people passed out in the back yard, in the hall, out in the tub, and 4 were passed out in the hot tub. I found out that my neighbor called. He really didn't like me and also he didn't like kids that much.

Last week's class was very interesting, even though being a Psych major, I have hatched the topic of stereotypes to death. It was interesting to see other people's views and reactions when confronted with stereotypes. I think that every situation can be interpreted differently. It's hard to see that not everyone thinks the way you think. Sometimes people have trouble understanding why something they think is trivial is offensive to someone else. I noticed this when we were discussing the baseball team names being offensive such as the Cleveland Indians. At first I thought that it was not a big deal because it was just a sports team name. It was not intended to be offensive, threatening or demeaning. It's just so much time as past, that the names have stayed out of tradition. It does stereotype Native Americans as Indians with brown skin, a big nose, and a headdress. I do not personally look at the symbol and think all Native Americans must look this way. When asked to describe a typical Native American, that symbol for the Cleveland Indians does not pop into my head. I'm not the hugest sports fan either, so I never have really thought about. I assume that a person of average of intelligence knows better than to think that all Native Americans must resemble the Cleveland Indians symbol. Yet, I'm probably wrong because I should never assume.

I also think that political correctness America has become somewhat of a joke. It seems that everyone seems to be crying about something, everyone has been offended somehow. People hold their tongues a lot more now, so they don't get sued. It does not mean they still don't think the same thoughts. It's hard to change people and it seems that for the most part, people don't want to bother taking the effort to change.


The only way I could relate to was when Jessica made the analogy of the baseball team having a Jewish icon and fans screaming, "Malzoltov! Malzoltov!" it made more sense to me because I am also Jewish and could see how then having a stereotype for a mascot could be offensive. Even though people do not know it, they are mocking another culture. It seems trivial but I think that the little things do have an impact on us. Also when the guest speaker made the comparison to Lehigh students being, "preppy white boys." It changed my perspective and I understand why little things like a baseball team logo could offend people.


When I look at the issue from a small perspective and how in a world with so much diversity, so many things can offend someone. Stereotypes are all around us and I know that we have to have them. I know it's impossible not to have them. I've learned that I can't let negative stereotypes bother me. I hear Jewish jokes all the time, I even laugh at them, because I know they're not true. On a personal level I know it doesn't matter what others think of me, it only matter what I think of myself.


On a more worldly level, as for history, stereotypes are all that is going to be remembered. A hundred years from now, kids are going to read about the 1st century in a history book or watch a documentary. Our whole existence will be crammed in one 0-page chapter or a -hour movie. Our stereotypes will become history, and people will believe it as the truth, just as we believe our history books as the truth. Do we really know what the Roman and Greek life was like? Did they really walk around in togas with leaves in their hair? We weren't there, all we know is what anthropologists and old literature tell us. The only truth we know is that there is no truth.
