In A Seperate Peace there was an external conflict between Gene and Phineas who were the two main characters in the story. Even though the conflict was between the two main characters in the story the confliuct grew to such a proportion that it soon affected other students in their class. The conflict between Gene and Phineas was the green-eyed monster know as jealously, but it was far stronger in Gene that it was in Phineas.

The jealousy affected Gene and Phineas in different ways, so the boys expressed it in different ways. The reason Phineas was jealous of Gene was because Gene was smart, but even though he had gainedd his knowledge from countless hours of studying Phineas thought this was a naturally acquired gift. So in order to bring Gene down to his level Phineas got involved in anything and everything that he could and he even made some things up. And everything that he did Gene had to go along and do too regardless. But as time went on this soon became less of a i want you to be as stupid as me thing and more of a youre my best friend and i sould think that you wanna do these things with me because im so much fun, and eventually he forgot that he was even jealous of Gene until an altercation between the two of them ion their room.

The reason Gene was jealous was ironic because it was the actions that Phineas was doing to combat his jealously that pushed Gene ove the edge. Gene was jealous because Phineas was naturally outgoing, athletic and had a certian charm about him that everyone loved while Gene was an introverted bookworm. But Genes jealously towards Phineas wasnt the kind that would go away with some quality best friend time in order to make himself feel better and at the same time subsequently worse he had to hurt Phineas and hurt him badly. Badly enough that Phineas could never play sports ever again. And he did, but because everyone loved Phineas they wanted to find out what really happened. They didnt just want to accept the story given to them by Gene. Gene tried to tell Phineas but he just waved him off under the term insanity. But when he did figure out Gene was telling him the truth he hurt himself and complications during surgury led to his untimely death.

Both boys percieved their jealously in a different way so they both handeled it a diffent way and they were both resolved in different ways. Phineas on the one hand went with the forgive and forget approach. He assumed that because he and Gene had talked it out that it was over and done with. But Gene had not fully talked everything out and he let this bubble under the surface until it came out and he hurt Phineas.

AM I TOO YOUNG TO EVANGELIZE?

By Marvin Langston

In Todays world teens are told that they arent old enough to do many different things. If we are under sixteen we are told we are too young to drive. If we are under eighteen we are too young to consider ourselves adults, to young to live by ourselves, and too young to vote. When I think about it though, am I too young to evangelize?

Help with essay on AM I TOO YOUNG TO EVANGELIZE

To answer this question I first have to know what it means to evangelize. Meridian-Websters dictionary defines an evangelist as a person who preaches the gospel and proclaims the word of Christ. When I think of a preacher, I think of an old man dressed in a long black robe that hoops and hollers. I realized that isnt always the case. Preachers come in many shapes, sizes, and forms. All of us have at one time or another took on the role of a preacher. We have preached what we believed to be true to neighbors, family, and friends. Believe me I know how to preach. I have preached to my mother the reasons why my curfew should be pushed back a couple of hours. I preached to my father about the grass not needing me to cut it every week. I have even preached to my grandmother on the necessities of having a girlfriend in high school. These cases, though, deal with secular preaching. Evangelism is preaching the gospel.

My opinion about Evangelism is that anyone can do it. Age, sex, and race should not be taken into consideration. I think a youth who lives a Christian life in and out of church and wants to tell others about the good news of Christ should be able to. I dont think he or she should be looked down on or disrespected because of their age.

Many people think that Evangelism carries a list of responsibilities that teens might not be able to perform. I think that anyone who God chooses to be an Evangelist for him is quite prepared for the job. Although many people will turn from you when you start to preach about the good news of Christ, Evangelists have the staying power to hang in there and fight the battle for the lord it doesnt matter what adversities they may face. Dont get me wrong. Just because you are an Evangelist that title doesnt make you perfect. Teen Evangelists should have faith in God, strength in their soul, and love in their hearts. With these qualities you are sure to be a very great Evangelist.

In general I think that I am not too young to evangelize. If God gave me the gift to be an evangelist, I will take it and run with it. I should not let anything or anyone stand in my way. Even if I have to evangelize to myself I have to know that in Gods eyes I am speaking to millions of people. I believe that through God I can do anything that I set my mind to. As the familiar saying goes, I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

Fisfights, shootout, car crashes, rapes...Take your pick. Violence is ubiquitous on television, sometimes gory and gruesome, other times antiseptic and remote. No matter which one you pick, there will be violence depicted in some form on this media and your children will be exposed, to be precise, to an average of 5 to 7 violent acts an hour. To speak true, a certain amount of violence is good for your children, to help them identify wrong kinds of behaviour and the pain involved in these acts. However, these acts must be put into a certain context. Although you cannot censor violence, there are measures you can take to protect your kids from the negative effects of the brutal acts they may witness in the media. You should always watch television with your children. At least one episode of the television shows your children watch should be viewed so that you can be aware of the content and understand what kind of values your children are being taught. The amount of television a child watches can also be monitored and limited. Heavy viewers (over 4 hours of T.V. viewed a day) will witness 7000 deaths in 10 years of viewing...do you want your child to be exposed to this? Determine certain shows that your child likes and let them only watch these shows. Don't allow them to 'surf' channels to find whatever is least objectionable as they will be exposed to unmonitored, undesirable content. Another idea is to set a limit of 1 hour or so a day of viewing. You can then ban certain offensive shows and suggest other programs featuring helping, caring and co-operation for your kids.

When viewing the tube with your son or daughter it is also important to highlight the fact that real violence has real effects - pain and even death. This is important as very few shows, especially cartoons, demonstrate the short term and long term effects of violence. This teaches youths of today that they can commit brutalities and they can be committed unto them without effect. Parents must also describe violent issues. The explanation will help your children to understand the importance of violence in a program and distinguish between good and bad. Describe to them why characters acted a certain way, that violence is not the way that adults or mature individuals solve problems and you can even suggest non-violent solutions to the fictional program. This can be a great way to teach your child about the world and how to deal with unpleasant situations.

Help with essay on The apparent parent

All of these measures should help you and your child deal with the rising problem of what to do about violence on television and our inevitable desensitization to it. If you respect even a few of these guidelines, your youngsters should be much better adjusted, understanding and thoughtful individuals. Do remember, television can be an extremely educationaland fun part of your child's life, when treated correctly, HAPPY VIEWING!❑

According to David Greenfield, these specific Internet users seem to have a problem of escapism. Concordantly, these certain users tend to occupy most of their free time on the web rather than perhaps spending quality time with friends and family, or taking on responsibilities more important than leisurely web browsing. He illustrates this point by explaining the disruption it has caused in specific cases in family circles. After regarding the issues in his essays, I tend to agree with what he says.

There are countless anonymous users out in cyberspace that flood chat rooms, and an enduring quantity of communities that range from practically anything you can imagine. I can account for someone I knew that lived lies through the Internet (someone who will remain anonymous) because he loved the idea of having the opportunity to live out certain fantasies he had. He would visit chat rooms, join certain Internet groups, claim to be this and that, and gullible people would accept it at face value. But he was also a veritable master of deceit. For some people, it's more fun to live a lie, I suppose, and this was entirely true of him. I also remember my professor at my old high school who counseled someone with this addiction, and after counseling her for a while, she confessed that she was able to "be herself by being anonymous", as she put it. For people who have trouble dealing with the trials and anxieties of reality, the Internet can definitely serve as an escape for these trouble individuals. There are many of us who have perhaps joined a chat room on a boring day and have lied about themselves just for kicks. But unfortunately some people take it too far and make it their world.

The interactive gaming industry has also tapped into the web, with a number of web-based games that people from around the world can participate in. I'm reminded of someone on the news I had heard about who had this type of addiction. His grades in school dropped tremendously and he cut off practically all social interaction to live in the world of Everquest, an Internet game similar to Dungeon's & Dragons. You create a character in the game and gain special powers and weapons as you progress, and fight against the various evils in the different simulated societies. This kid's character died in a battle, and it consumed him so much that he ended up killing himself!

These are just a few examples of how the Internet can capture someone's mind and totally distort it. The forms of entertainment provided by the World Wide Web can be distracting, and people can become entirely consumed by them. I support Greenfield's assessment of this problem of escapism. However, these unfortunate few need help, and it is good news to hear that some of these people have been cured of their dilemma. Technology is a wonderful means of achieving certain ends, but it should never replace reality.

Stress is an aspect of life. Stress plays a key role in daily life, influencing, if not controlling, happiness, efficiency and health. Stress occurs everyday and with everyone. There is always something that is causing one to be anxious or nervous. However, it is what causes the stress and tension that can be dealt with. Personally, I am constantly under stress, or feel that way. Yet, there is a cure for stress, outlets one can use to channel the frustrations and apprehensiveness to carry it off. Stress is almost an essential part of my life, the causes and the effects of it, however, are what I need to learn to deal with.

Stress is a mentally or emotionally disruptive or upsetting condition occurring to unfortunate external affects. Stress occurs usually in major life events, however sometimes the little things in life can be worse. I am easily affected by stress. I constantly am worrying about a test, an overdue library book, or anything else I feel pressure from. The littlest things add up and I allow them to take over. Instead of trying to work through them myself, I usually turn to someone to talk to and depend on them to make everything less stressful and better. However, this effect to make less stress in my life is not one I should rely on, now that I am older. However, there is a better way for me to deal with stress.

Music has become my outlet. I use music as my form of channeling my negative energy into positive. I have notebooks full of lyrics and songs that I basically am putting my feelings into words, where I can work them out. Through my many emotions I write down, I have been able to even sometimes have people understand and relate to how I was feeling at that moment of frustrations or stress. It is hard to explain how the words come to me, or how I make my feelings into lyrics, but somehow I do. In this outlet of relieving stress, I have discovered that songwriting is what I want to do and pursue in and out of college. My constructive hobby helped me to discover this.

It is important to remember to recognize whether you are under stress or out of it, that even if one is under the influence of a stressful condition our body reacts to it internally. The body is constantly trying to tell us through symptoms such as rapid shivering, dizzy spells, tight muscles or even various aches. When I am under stress, I recognize the symptoms of dizzy spells and my headaches. I usually will get a headache an hour or so after the initial stress affects me. These headaches do not seem to go away with aspirin, and that is how I start to recognize I am stressed. It is important to remain attentive to such symptoms and to learn to cope with the situations. People cope better with stressful situation, when they encounter them voluntarily. In cases of relocation, promotion or layoff, adventurous sports or having a baby, we tend to respond positively under stress.

Alcohol and Athletes

If you order your custom term paper from our custom writing service you will receive a perfectly written assignment on Alcohol and Athletes. What we need from you is to provide us with your detailed paper instructions for our experienced writers to follow all of your specific writing requirements. Our staff of freelance writers includes over 120 experts proficient in Alcohol and Athletes, therefore you can rest assured that your assignment will be handled by only top rated specialists. Order your Alcohol and Athletes paper at affordable prices!

Alcohol and athletes don't mix just like alcohol and driving doesn't mix. Alcohol is a very poisonous liquid that contains many organic chemicals. Some of these lethal chemicals that people drink include ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, and others. Alcohol is a clear, explosive liquid that burns easily just like the many kitchen cleaners we have in our cupboards.

Alcohol is a very bad liquid to drink especially when you play sport. It effects many parts of your body and has a huge amount of side effects that effect you as an individual and as a sports person.

When the person drinks alcohol its passed from the stomach into the small intestine, where it is rapidly absorbed into the blood. Then the heart pumps the blood and distributes it throughout the body. Because it is scattered so quickly and thoroughly the alcohol can affect the central nervous system causing the person to become less stable and very drowsy.

Athletes these days say alcohol consumption before a race can calm the nerves making them feel less worried and fearless. The other reasons why athletes drink alcohol is to reduce inhibitions, increase mental alertness, reduce pain if any before race and reduce muscle tremor.

Even though athletes can find some positives with alcohol there also is negatives. Alcohol has been proven that it can decrease accuracy, balance, and reaction time, slow visual tracking and information processing, decrease strength, power and muscle endurance and also dehydrate the body. These side effects wouldn't help an athlete at all and it would in fact slow the athlete down especially if playing a game sport such as football.

The positives of alcohol aren't really that positive if you think about it. Even though alcohol does dull the sensation of pain that isn't a good thing. If the person cant feel the pain then they wouldn't even know its there, in this case the pain will grow worse because you wouldn't rest it or care for it.

Alcohol also contains many calories per drink, these calories very quickly add up causing the consumer to become very overweight. This will slow down the person in sporting performances and can cause he or she to become very unfit. In addition to this alcohol interferes with the absorption of many vitamins and minerals, this can slow down the processing of carbohydrates and proteins that are needed in an everyday diet of an athlete.

BUT with everything there are some positives in alcohol, drinking one bottle a day (no more) can increase the level of high-density lipoproteins or HDL's in the blood. HDLs are known as the good cholesterol and are good for keeping our arteries clear and can reduce the risk of heart disease. Even though this is a good thing I don't suggest drinking a bottle a day just for the fact of lower risk of heart disease because remember there are much more negatives than positives to drinking a bottle of alcohol. So far, this is the only real positive of alcohol to your health.

Please note that this sample paper on Alcohol and Athletes is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. In case you experience difficulties with writing a well structured and accurately composed paper on Alcohol and Athletes, we are here to assist you. What is my favourite film and why?

Out of all the films I have seen I do not think that I could name a particular one that I could call my all time favourite. One film that I enjoy watching and have done so recently is Love Honour and Obey. The film follows the members of a London crime gang over a short period of time showing both their working and home life.

The film has one main story line and several mini story lines that run side by side flicking from one to another every few minutes. This keeps your mind on several different topics at the same time and so consequently makes the film interesting and not at all boring to watch.

There are some hilarious scenes that are just so funny to watch that they can be watched over and over again and still stay funny even though you know what is going to happen next. The film manages to make violent scenes such as stabbing and kidnapping funny to watch, which I imagine is very hard to do.

Cheap Custom Essays on favourite film

I think that Love Honour and Obey is one of the most original films that have been made in a long while. The actors keep their own names for their characters, so that Ray Winston is called Ray in the film, and so on. Throughout the film a main character called Johnny is seen every so often narrating the film and telling you information that is relevant to the storyline. He is dressed in a clown's outfit that makes you wonder all the way through, why? It is not until the end of the film that you get to find out.

There are a lot of violent scenes that have been filmed in such a way that they are funny, so that they almost contradict each other. It leaves you wondering if it is violence or comedy. The gang warfare fights are also filmed in the same way and not one person is killed even though there are a lot of guns being used and the rounds are flying around horizontal rain!

The characters in the film are all likable, even the ones that are considered as the baddies. They range from the toughest man in North London who is a large and overpowering man who commands respect to the little podgy man that every one picks on and laughs at. Even though the characters are all different they all come from the same sort of background and are in the same gang. It shows you how close they can be and how they consider each other as family.

At the end of the film the main characters of two different gangs are gathered together in a last show down. That is what you think anyway. This is the point that all the little things that have had you thinking all the way through the film come together and all is revealed and explained, the twists start to become clear and everything just falls into place and you cannot help but think that it was a clever film.

These are the main reason that I have enjoyed watching this film over and over again and will probably watch it a few more times just so I can have a good laugh. All in all it has a bit of everything that makes a good film and I look forward to seeing it again.

Please note that this sample paper on favourite film is for your review only. Socrates

Socrates was a mysterious and significant figure in the history of philosophy. He lived between 46 and B.C., was the son of a mason and was a stonecutter by trade. Except for periods of military service abroad, Socrates lived all of his life in Athens.

Socrates was well-known in the streets and marketplaces of Athens. He spent the majority of his time striking up philosophical and ethical discussions with men and women on topics such as love, politics, war, friendship, poetry, religion, science, and moral issues. In doing this, Socrates became a respected teacher of philosophy by simply drifting around the city with his students and asking questions of them and strangers. His sophist teaching style trained the young and old the art of arguing and asking questions; which, in turn, forced them to draw their own conclusions and question the conclusions that they drew. Socrates did not have a formal classroom and refused any pay for his teachings.

Socrates believed and taught his students that every person is full knowledge and the ultimate truth was contained within their soul, which only needed to be brought to a level of conscious awareness. He also believed that a persons knowledge was inborn and not gained from experience. Therefore, he felt his job, as a philosopher was to provoke people into thinking for themselves, rather than to teach them anything they did not already know. He stressed to his students the need for analytical examination of ones beliefs, for clear definitions of basic concepts and for a rational and critical approach to ethical problems. Socrates considered the soul as an individuals intelligence and ethical character.

Socrates also believed that the chief cause of evil that men do was from ignorance. He believed that through the proper development of the mind through the pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness that the goal and purpose of human life could be achieved. Socrates also regarded popular opinion as lack of knowledge and was very critical of government. He felt that people who were chosen to govern the state should possess both intellectual and moral qualifications.

Tragically, in B.C., Socrates was accused of corrupting the youth of Athens and for publicly rejecting the Greek gods. He was convicted by a jury and sentenced to death. Friends of Socrates had planned for his escape from jail, but Socrates refused and up until the day he drank a poison cup of hemlock, he spent his final days discussing philosophy with those who would listen. Today, the only way we know that Socrates existed, because he never wrote anything down, was through some of his students' famous and well-known writings.

It is unclear whether everyone Socrates conversed with while he was alive benefited from his philosophy. It is clear, however, Socrates did change philosophy, and the way people think. He invented new ideas and new methods of teaching. Socrates died for his values, principles, and morals, which our society today, could benefit from his long-a-go teachings.

Buses vs. Private Cars

Gao Huan

As an essential part of the modern life, traffic is an important index of people's living standards. Three characteristics of satisfactory city traffic are speed, convenience and safety. For a developing metropolis like Shanghai, there are two ways to achieve this goal public transportation and private transportation, or more concretely, buses and private cars. There has been discussion as to which to promote.

Now let's look at the issue in the particular context of Shanghai. Shanghai is a leading city of China, with promising economic prospects. Good traffic is vital to individuals' daily life and the business of the city. What Shanghai needs is cost-effective traffic.

Write my Essay on private cars for me

Though recently we have built many roads and highways, the population over-density, the largely still unsatisfactory road condition and the pollution are nonetheless problems we have to deal with. So at the status quo, public transportation is a better solution.

Properly planned and successfully developed, the public bus system of a city, together with the subways etc., can move people all over to wherever they want. Designed for the public, a bus carries many people of the same route on one ride, while a private car can only carry very limited number of passengers. To move the same number of people to their destinations, there will be more cars on the road than buses, in spite of their smaller sizes. Thus the roads get more congested, the speed of the traffic is lowered and there will be more likelihood of traffic jam. True that cars can ride much faster, but when we take these factors into account, public buses save time for everyone.

A bus burns gas for many people, while for the same many, there will be many more cars burning much more gas. Therefore, buses save gas and pollute the air to a lesser degree. When the whole world is confronted with energy crisis and environment deterioration, this is an especially important advantage.

Cars are still very expensive for most of the people, considering the price and maintaining cost. Our national car industry is still rather weak; its relatively low efficiency and high cost make it impossible to render the price low enough. To prevent our car industry from being defeated by the foreign car industry, our government keeps the tariff pretty high. So the whole price level remains too high for the ordinary people. If the government ever wants to promote private cars without harming the development of the national card industry, it needs to develop our car production more quickly.

At present, when crowdedness, relatively low income level and air-pollution are unsolved, we need to put emphasis on buses. In the mean time, we need to improve the city infrastructure and car industry as quickly as possible. Then, when these problems are solved, we can gradually shift to private cars. Anyway cars are convenient, personal and the car-possessing percentage is an important indicator of a country's economic power.

In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. Question - Define and discuss two interesting elements of poetry

The Language, Image and Sounds of Poetry

Write my Essay on The Language, Image and Souds of Poetry

There are many elements that comprise poetry. Two very important elements of those are language and imagery. Poets use these techniques to entertain and capture their audience depending how they use them. They also use these elements to achieve a desired effect depending on what they are writing about.

For poets, what they write and how they write in a poem is extremely important. Language is the way poets express and dictate what he or she wants to communicate. The language used in poetry is very carefully selected. Even though there are different words having the same meaning, picking the right one will make the difference of capturing the reader or not. This is called diction and poets know all to well the value of having this skill. So much thinking goes into this process because the writer has accurately portrayed what he or she is writing about to be able to relate to the reader.

One particular poem that shows how language is used is "she being Brand," by E.E. Cummings. The poet starts by titling the poem with an incomplete title. Instead of titling it she being brand new, E.E. Cummings just leaves it sort of half way. It leaves the reader curious to figure out exactly what the poem is all about. Another way Cummings uses the language to achieve his desired effect is by breaking of the words. For example,

using the same poem "she being Brand", Cummings writes "again slo-wly;bare,ly nudg. Ing (my lev-er Right- oh and her gears being in A 1 shape passed from low through second-in-to-high like greasedlightning)." This shows a very unorthodox way of writing which makes the reader say and almost feel what the poet wants the reader feel.

Image is another element of writing that can relay a powerful message to reader. Basically an image is anything that appeals to any of the five senses. This is a technique that has a broad range of effects. Depending on what the poet is writing about, the writer can make you smell flowers or make feel you are flying and can even make you think you are actually running through a field of grass. In the "Poem," William Carlos Williams makes me feel that I am in my house watching the cat that I don't have. Another great example of using imagery is "Calvary Crossing a Ford." By Walt Whitman. He writes " They take a serpentine course, their arms flash in the sun hark to the musical clank." I feel like if I was there together with the cavalry.

It is amazing at how language and imagery can take affect on a reader. Poets have a special talent at achieving this exhilarating miracle. All and all these elements are essential and add the excitement all great pieces of writing need.

Please note that this sample paper on The Language, Image and Souds of Poetry is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. That there are many difficulties in the way of presenting Shakespeare is a fact, I think, that no one will deny. Not that Shakespeare on the stage does not interest the public, but rather that those who know and love the works of the great bard so seldom see his immortal dramas presented in accordance with their own ideals. They are often disappointed because the stage characters do not altogether represent the ones they have pictured as the result of their own study or the perusal of the writings of the countless commentators who have devoted years to analyzing the works of the greatest of dramatists; just as many persons prefer a book that is not illustrated because the artists conception of the characters is sure to differ materially from the mental pictures, vague at first, but which develop as the story unfolds until they become so real as to cause a discordant note when confronted by scenes and faces differing so widely from the ones they have created.

Not only does the critic and the thoughtful theater-goer take his seat on a Shakespearean first night with his own impressions of the play and characters before him; but he remembers, also, other performances he has seen, and still others of which he has read. Contrast the difference in the possibilities of success that confront the woman who attempts Juliet, Portia or Ophelia, with three hundred years of comparison and tradition to contend against, as compared with those of one who appears before the same critics and the same audience in a play that is unknown, and in a character that can not excite comparison because her interpretation is the only one.

Another unequal chance is found in the fact that while the modern play is written with the idea of telling a complete story in the two hours and a half allotted to an evenings entertainment in this busy age; with a Shakespearean drama it is necessary in order to conform to this custom to cut or omit passages and scenes that must necessarily detract from the perfect harmony of the printed work.

The unfamiliarity of modern-day audiences with the beauties of blank verse, and the difficulty of obtaining actors to play the minor roles who are capable of reading it correctly, are still other obstacles in the path of every Shakespearean producer .

Cheap College Papers on SHAKESPEARE'SHEROINES!!!

But, on the other hand, to act the famous roles of Shakespeare is, of course, the ambition of every player, man or woman. Speaking lines and enacting scenes that are immortal, revealing as they do boundless possibilities of thought and study, must ever be a labor of love to the sincere student; and even limited or indifferent success thus attained is dearer to the actress heart than would be any amount of commendation acquired in a different field of endeavor. In this, as in most things, the pleasure is all the more keen and the reward the greater because of difficulties encountered, and, in a measure, overcome.

As anyone will tell you who lived during the period, fear and nationwide chaos marked the Cold War era. Basically, the Americans were scared and President Eisenhower knew it. So he took care of it. The Eisenhower administration's focus was not only on preventing a war, but it was also on calming the widespread fear of war and of death. And on this focus they spent millions of dollars to simply keep Americans from worrying. This expensive plan eventually worked as Americans collectively began to stop worrying about war and start trusting their elected leadership. Throughout the 150's the people of America feared a nuclear war for several legitimate reasons but, due to the clever workings of the Eisenhower administration, total disorder was avoided.

President Eisenhower himself summed up his country's situation by saying, "…the world is suffering from a multiplicity of fears." Americans feared that they would die if not from the initial explosion of a nuclear weapon then from the fallout, which would follow. They also feared a future war in which their children would perish. Alongside this fear of death in the back of so many Americans' heads was another fear Communism. For some U.S. citizens Communism was an unjust social system, which they would fight to the death. Many others weren't even sure what it was, but they were sure they were against it. The nationwide consensus however seemed to be that there was no place for Communism in America. One thing was for sure fear was on the minds of the majority of Americans during the Cold War.

With every inch of fear in America came two inches of reassurance by the government. In response to Americans' fear of dying from nuclear fallout, the Eisenhower administration successfully informed numerous families about the construction of bomb shelters and urged them to build their own. So for the first time since talk of nuclear warfare began, Americans could truly believe that they could survive a nuclear attack. Eisenhower again reassured Americans in his speech to Congress in January 158. Playing off the fact that parents feared for the future of their children, President Eisenhower promised to raise the bar of technological education for school-age children. So by showing how easily a nuclear war could be survived and by shedding light on the education of the next generation of American citizens, the Eisenhower administration effectively addressed the fears shared by many Americans.

The Cold War was a time of fear for many people across the world. But with the help of a strong leader like Dwight D. Eisenhower, the people of America were a little more confident than the residents of other nations in the world. As fears were abundant, so was the amount of confidence radiating from all those involved in the Eisenhower administration. America may have been disorderly and chaotic during the Cold War era, but thankfully (and to the enjoyment of every future American) it never escalated into a nuclear war, which could have easily happened.

Antigone Essay

In the play Antigone, by Sophocles, the priorities set forth by each character often collide with their own pride. Antigones main priority is to give respect, honor, and a proper burial to her brother Polyneices. Creons main priority is to uphold the law he laid out. Each seems honorable, but when they add all of their pride and egos so the mix they end up with a battle against wits. Each argument has its own side that makes good sense, but the action taken by each to resolve the situation is prideful. They cannot put their egos aside to decide on a solution until its too late. As a result, one can conclude that pride influences decisions, morals, laws, and values whether they are right or wrong.

One of Creons drives that fuels his pride is to make his subjects and peers feel inferior to his superiority. He feels trapped and threatened when his subjects contradict his authority. Do you want me to show myself weak before the people? /Or to break my sworn word? No, and I will not/The woman dies, (Scene , 6-1). If I permit my family to rebel, /How should I earn the worlds obedience? (Scene , 0-1). It is a good thing that Creon can stand true to his word as king, but on the other hand, wheres his compassion?

Each side of the law can be in the right as well as the wrong. Which of us can say what the gods hold wicked? (Scene , 116). The law cant just be in black and white like Creon is making it be. If law was pure right and wrong making decisions would be a lot easier and less complicated, however law is not. Antigones intentions have justice to them, but Creon has a good defense. So who is to conquer the quarrel? Who is to be held accountable for the crime? Different values constitute different punishments and glorification. How far does one go to defend their values, and how much pride is set forth? What are the costs for one mans ego? Who should pay the ultimate price? These questions just begin to debate the topic of justice.

Cheap custom writing service can write essays on Antigone Essay

Just like Antigone and Creon, centuries ago, the Roman Empire was trying to impose on the Middle Easts values and morals, but Easterner's didnt want them to interfere with their way of life. In the Middle Eastern Society they had been doing their thing for centuries. The Roman Empire was being hypocritical and prideful to think that everything they did was mighty and all should follow. Values they had were great, but on the other hand so were numerous other societies. To try and convince an entire society to change every value is hubris and a little asinine.

In conclusion, pride influences decisions, morals, laws, and values whether they are right or wrong. In this play Creon and Antigone battle with pride for their values. If each side is in the right and wrong who is victorious? Again, who should pay the ultimate price? These are questions that can never be answered. They were problems in the past and they are still problems among our society today. After all, who is worthy enough to speak for the gods?

Opposite Heroes

I put in considerable thought in trying to relate a personal hero to that of Beowulf. When I went for the idea of my dad I thought that it was kind of corny. But who do I know the best and also who do I know the most about? I also cannot think of a better person who relates to the things that stand out about Beowulf.

We will start out by listing a few similarities between Beowulf and my dad. The first thing that comes to mind is bravery. Beowulf comes off as a brave, courageous type that loves to fight and show off his capabilities. But, one thing that is great about this man is how during a showdown between Beowulf and Brecca. They both risked their lives for no reasons, besides the danger. Beowulf in the lead, and with no problem could have beat Brecca. Beowulf turns around, waits for Brecca and helps Brecca along with his journey across the sea, putting Beowulf's life in greater danger. To me this is a prime example of bravery. Not only does he risk his own life by competing with this man in a seven-night swim across a dangerous sea; he also stops the race to help the man, Brecca, whom he is competing against. My dad's bravery on the other hand, comes into play in a different way. He brought six children into this world, and is the only one working to support a large family of eight. He leaves for work every day to insure that we have food on the table and clothes on our backs. Another thing that comes to mind when I think of my dad's bravery, is when he went cliff jumping; that also shows a different type of bravery.

Honesty, for these past 18 years that have lived with my dad, I don't remember a time when he has not told me the truth. When I hear something from my dad there is not a doubt in my mind that he is not telling the truth. When he boasts about his past and what he has accomplished and also what he has failed at, he does not have to back it up with any proof. It's just the truth. With Beowulf he boasts about himself "driving five great giants into chains," and chasing that calf from the earth. Wow, I guess that I have to kind of just go off his word. But the reason I believe that is because of all the great accomplishments he has completed.

But, there is one thing that I kind of don't agree with. That my dad does. Sometimes he'll tell me that either he wants to do something. But then he'll back out of it at the last minute. But, it's not like he lies to me. He'll tell me that he wants to have time to do it because of work or something has come up. But I guess what I'm trying to say is that he does not back up his word. For example, the other day we were supposed to go golfing but he had paperwork to do so he had to back out. Beowulf on the other hand always backs up his word.

My dad and Beowulf are not the same person. Although they show it in different ways, they both show heroic actions, just in opposite ways. Beowulf showed his in fighting and in violent activities. My dad does his in loving actions. So they are both heroes in my eyes.

Everyone knows how hard it is to find a mate for marriage. Having said that, each person is free to decide how the mate selection will take place. Some people would rather conduct this selection by themselves, without any help, while others prefer to get help from someone else, like their parents or a matchmaker. Before continuing it is wise to make a distinction between the traditional arranged marriage and the modern definition of an arranged marriage. The arranged marriages that happen by tradition in parts of Africa, most of Asia and a good portion of Eastern Europe are determined by the parents without the consent of the future couple. The modern view is very different from traditional view. Todays definition makes a distinct emphasis on choice, courtship and convenience. In most instances it is a service, provided by an agency, or a good friend. The purpose is to find a compatible mate, with the greatest number of similarities and the same primary objective marriage. This text will compare and contrast some of the advantages and disadvantages of todays version of the arranged marriage.

It is clear that the concept itself is controversial. Some people find it cold and little romantic to choose your lifelong partner using this method. Most young people tend to believe that the only way to choose a mate is to date until you fall in love plan a wedding and get married. This point of view is not very realistic if we define marriage as a lifelong commitment. If the young marriage is based on love alone the soon to be adults may grow together based on other similarities or goals they have identified, or may grow apart because they have found nothing else to keep them together. It is safe to say that you will have better chances for success in this commitment if you have countless qualities in common with your future partner.

Another school of thought identifies convenience as the most important aspect of a marriage; the best way to meet an economic goal or reach a higher social status. This way of thinking is completely opposite from ¨loves¨ point of view. Here feelings have little importance for the only real purpose is personal gain. A relationship based on these selfish principles will never succeed. Trust will never flourish and the relationship will eventually end in divorce.

In conclusion, the best way to insure a successful marriage is to find a balance between both previously discussed views, while using every means possible to identify potential mates, including arranged marriages. The purpose of an arranged marriage is to obtain a secure connection between people with similar interests, needs and goals (education level, religious beliefs, similar cultural values, and financial stability). A marriage requires a more durable foundation and it can not survive on love alone. So be wise, there is more involved in the choosing of a partner than pure convenience or pure passion. Most anyone can find something to love, honor, or cherish in someone else.

All students should wear school uniform everyday to school

All students should wear school uniform every day to school. There are many special reasons why students are allowed to be 'out' of uniform. For example a child has seriously injured his or her foot; this gives them the permission to wear other shoes to school to ensure the comfort of the child and prevent further damage to the injury. But there is a majority of school students who choose not to wear their school uniform, not because of special purposes but for reasons of not liking them. It is because they do not like the style and from 'peer pressure' they must follow the 'rules' of fashion.

Although many students may complain about wearing school uniform, there are a lot of good reasons as to why uniforms are needed. Peer Pressure is recognized as a serious and real issue that adolescences go through, yet sadly it has been abusively used as a common excuse.

From this they 'follow their rules of fashion'. But why do they do this?

If they could follow those rules why can't they follow school rules and regulations?

The children would find it 'funny' to wear these types of brands and alienating the child, following many threats and torture, this results to bullying. Just because some students can not afford high brand shoes doesn't mean that they are any different.

The Story

One day when I was chilling with my friends this homeless man walks up to us. Now we were just playing football and minding our own business. So anyways he walked up to us and started to tell his story. Now at first we were all thinking who is this guy. But after awhile we started to get interested.

So when he walked up to us he started by saying " hey kids can I have a little bit of your time." So we said quickly sure but make it quick; in a rude accent. So he begun " children I am going to tell you a story you may or you may not want to know ." Then Tony made a remark that sounded like get on with it but I really couldn't tell cause he said it under his breath., then the man continued " When I was I young boy much like you are now me and my friends got into a little trouble every now and then, but there was this one time where we got into too much trouble. So we were just normal kids just like you guys; we all liked to play all kinds of sports such as football, baseball, soccer, and basketball and so on. But all of that just was a sport that somebody else created. We actually wanted or own game that no one else knew about. So we started thinking and somebody came up with an idea to put soccer and football plus basketball but that just didn't sound fun enough. Then I came up with the idea that we could pretend we were thugs and we decided to give it a try. So we all ran around the neighborhood and tried to hit people and try not to get hit. Now this of course would be only the people that were playing. But after awhile everybody knew all the hiding spots so we decided to play at night and in the woods. And instead of your fist we would use or broken branches. So it would hurt a lot more and you had to pay a lot more attention. Anyways one of my friends accidentally hurt my best friend or so we though. He hit him in the back of the head with a huge branch. And my best friend had to be rushes to the hospital. Now the cops were asking a lot of questions but all the boys just kept there mouths shut. So anyways after about a months or two my best friend was better. So we all just continued the game. But this time around everybody was playing like it was there life at risk. And the same kid that got my best friend was acting weird like he was happy that my best friend got hurt so I went after him. And this time I I had a sludge hammer. I don't think I want to tell you kids anymore cause its not a very good thing to do." My friend said come on you just cant end a story like that. So he said "fine but is long as all of you agree to never tell anybody" and we all agreed and promised to him that we would never repeat what there going to be told. So he continued " I simply just hit him over the head and he died". I think there was a whole minute of silence before somebody said something and of course it was me asking if you ever got caught. And he said slowly but quietly no.

So then he just simply said I have to run my friends and he just disappeared and we were all amazed and we got back to our football game.
