A FLOOD

It was raining heavily. The boys at Cherton Boys School were excited at the idea of being stuck in a flood. They were hoping that the floodwaters would go up so high that they would be stuck in the classroom without doing any schoolwork. It would be very exciting. Everybody stood at the window in the classroom to watch the flood getting higher and higher. Throughout the whole morning, the rain continued to fall and the water level was still rising.

As the boys looked out of the window, they could see Mr Simon, their English teacher, walking towards his small car. His pants were rolled up and he was barefooted. He waddled his way towards his car and got in hurriedly. He turned back and waved at the boys. They cheered loudly for him.

Next, Miss Esther came into the class. She was barefooted too. She had just walked through a puddle of water on the way to the classroom. She was carrying her shoes in her hands. As soon as she had dried and cleaned her feet, she started with her Mathematics lesson. However, nobody in the class was paying attention to her. They were too excited about the flood and the scene outside the classroom.
