Personal Statement

Throughout my life I have been surrounded by healthcare workers. My mother and all of my uncles and aunts are either nurses or some type of medical technician. Of course they wanted me to become a nurse. I never wanted to become a nurse, but ever since I was in middle school I knew that I wanted to work in the medical field. Every career aptitude test I took showed that I wanted to become a health professional, and that I enjoyed working with and helping people. As soon as I entered high school, I enquired about the clinical rotation program. I was able to enroll in this program which allows students to follow or shadow various healthcare professional in a hospital setting. After observing the job duties of physicians, pharmacists, nurses, occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists and a variety of other professionals, I realized that physical therapy was the career for me. I enjoyed being the individual that helped the patient through their rehabilitation process to help them gain back their strength or ROM so that they could get back to their every day lives and jobs. It was such an awesome feeling because I loved being a small part of making a difference in someone's life. The patients were so appreciative and greatful. Earning my volunteer hours to enter physical therapy school also allowed me to observe the outpatient clinic setting and further confirm my decision to become a physical therapist. I love the challenge of learning how to correctly diagnose patients and determining the correct treatment plan for each individual patient. I am currently completing my second clinical affiliation for physical therapy school and I love going to work everyday. I guess I chose the right field!
