Close-up or macro photography is another aspect of photography. It makes your subject appear larger than life, and it lets you see the finer details you would otherwise miss in the subject.

Macro photography is not about shoving your camera up close to your subject and start clicking. It requires a lot of technical knowledge and skills, as any good photographer will tell you.

Order custom research paper on Close-up Photography tips

For those keen to try their hand at macro photography, here are some tips and tricks to help you

1. Choose your subject

Any thing can be used in macro photography, but some things just make more interesting subjects because of their shape, design, geometric form and bright colour. Some examples of such objects are flowers, leaves with dewdrops on them, fruits (cut or uncut), seashells, stamps, and any decorative items made of natural wood, bamboo or stone.

. Use a tripod

When photographing a subject at extremely close range, its better to mount your camera on a sturdy tripod instead of holding it in your hands. This is to prevent the camera from shaking especially during the long exposures and high magnification that is common in close-up photography.

. Close-up filter

If the camera does not have a macro mode or if the macro mode is insufficient for your needs, get an additional close-up filter. These filters normally come in +1, +, + and +4 magnification levels and are fixed to the front of the camera lens.

4. Depth of field

When shooting an object at close range, the main point of focus may be very sharp but the foreground and background of the main focus will be blurred. To eliminate this problem, adjust the aperture to a smaller number to increase the depth of field. Make sure, too, that the entire subject is perpendicular to the lens. Otherwise, you could easily end up with one end of the subject in focus and the other blurred.

Lens not perpendicular to subject

Lens perpendicular to subject

However, if you want the subject to stand out from the background, a wider aperture such as f8 will do the trick. This technique is especially applicable for photographing flowers at close range, or a moving object.

5. Colour contrast

Creating colour contrast is another way of making the subject stand out from its background. For example, having the subject dressed in white against a black background, or placing a bright orange object against a dark blue background would make interesting colour contrast in the picture.

6. Negative space (the space surrounding the subject)

Another way to create contrast between the subject and its background is to use negative space to bring out an interesting subject. Be adventurous, attempt shooting the subject from different angles to get a good negative space.

7. Creative compositions

If you do not want your pictures to turn out looking posed or monotonous, do not always place the subject in the center of the focus. Try to photograph the subject from different angles, directions and viewpoints. Dare to be creative - try making vertical, horizontal, diagonal and even asymmetrical compositions of the same subject.

8. Lighting

Photographing a subject at very close range can sometimes cast a shadow over the subject. Macro photography requires a dedicated macro ring flash - an O shaped flash that attaches to the front of the lens - that throws uniform light on the subject. However, these flashes tend to be pretty expensive. Alternatively, you can use the normal flash, but position it away from the camera so that there is adequate light to illuminate the subject.

. Final touch

Touch up on your digital images using imaging editing software like the Adobe PhotoShop. Then enlarge your close-up picture, print it and frame it. Hang it up on your walls to remind you of your photographic achievement

It seemed like it would make her die, just speaking it. So I didn't tell anyone, not even my best friends. At school I would slip into a fantastical dreamland, nobody there knew that I should be troubled, pensive. I put on my best front and paraded around the school halls with some sort of smile plastered on my face. At lunchtime I'd stare at my food thinking that my friends should know. I thought of a million different ways to tell them. Each time that I came close to telling them, I would think about their potential reactions. There would be the normal lunchtime banter going on, complaints about the ranch dressing, and I would blurt out, Hey guys, my mom has breast cancer. The whole cafeteria would turn silent and the plastic forks would drop from their hands, making a sad little clinking noise. Then I would stare at my food mentally kicking myself for having opened my mouth. I chose to say nothing. I remember very clearly the day that I went to go sit with her while she got her chemotherapy. I only did this once because it was too hard for me. I walked down an overly-lit sterile hallway trailing behind my dad. When we reached her room I wished that I could just keep walking, pretend I hadn't seen her. I went in and sat down. Her shirt was partially unbuttoned so that the IV could be inserted into the porto-cath surgically implanted under her collarbone. She was hooked up to three different kinds of poisons, and one normal IV. There were some knitting things spread across her lap and the ever present bag of lemon drops was faithfully at her side. Her head was laid back in the chair, she was tired. She and my dad tried to involve me in some nice chit-chat, I met and shook hands with the doctors and nurses, It's nice to meet you Dr. McCoy. Yeah right. I wiped away my forming tears and gave myself a mental pep talk to be happy. As long as I didn't look at her tired eyes I was OK. Half an hour later, she was done and we got to go home. I stayed alone in my room that night. Out of courtesy to my mom and fear that my friends would find out, I didn't have them over to the house for a long time. I didn't want them to notice anything, like the bottles of medicine all lined up at my mom's place at the table. Each pill a tiny soldier waging war on my mother's body. There were always huge quantities of lemons in the refrigerator. A friend would come over, Hey Mike, why so many lemons? It's the middle of winter! I couldn't risk having to explain to them that the taste of lemons made my mom less nauseous. The ceiling of the bathroom had hair on it. She tried so hard to camouflage her hair loss by blow drying her hair for over half an hour every morning. She would turn her head upside down, use some hairspray, then blow dry, then more hairspray and more blow drying. I don't think she realized her effect on the ceiling. Eight months after she had discovered the tumor, she was done with treatment. Eventually her hair began to grow back in. I really grew up during those eight long months of fixing the family dinners, trying to be strong for her and trying to take over certain aspects of her role as mom when she couldn't. I think that while hard to endure, her cancer has been good for the family. It pulled us all together when we needed to be strong. Today I think that all of us treasure more the moments that we have together. Instead of putting my feet down and complaining, I look forward to every Saturday that my mom and I go do chores together. After school some days I drive half an hour to go visit her in her office so she's not lonely, and sometimes I bring a bag of lemon drops, our favorite candy.

During the first verse John Clare experienced two physical reactions when he saw this lady for the first time, and they were that his face turned pale and his legs refused to walk away. We soon learn that John Clare is inexperienced in love because of the title and he also says

"I ne'er was struck before that hour."

And

"My heart has left its dwelling place".

Order Custom compare and contrast the theme of love in the poems "first ice" and "first love" paper

The second verse of this poem

"And then my blood rushed to my face

And took my sight away."

This tells us that his face went red with embarrassment and shows that he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

"The trees and bushes round the place

Seemed midnight at noonday.

I could not see a single thing,

Words from my eyes did start;

They spoke as chords do from the string,

And blood burnt round my heart."

Begins to describe the reactions, which occurred to him next, which were that blood rushed to his face and took his sight away. The verse then goes on to describe what he could see. When he says

"Words from my eyes did start."

He means that even though he couldn't speak at the time, his eyes showed how much he liked her.

The third verse of this poem;

"Are flowers the winters choice?

Is loves bed always snow?

She seemed to hear my silent voice

And loves appeal to know."

Also shows a sign of his inexperience because he is asking questions. We are also told in this verse that the lady has noticed John Clare and knows what he is feeling

"She seemed to hear my silent voice

And loves appeal to know."

Verse four of this poem

"I never saw so sweet a face

As that I stood before

My heart has left its dwelling place

And can return no more."

Means that he has never seen such a great looking lady as the lady, which he stood before. This verse also goes on to explain that he dedicates his heart to this one woman, and he will never love anybody as much as he loves her.

The mood of the poem is very romantic. The rhythm is fairly slow. The rhyme is consistent as every other line rhymes. This is unlike the structure although there is a pattern as the first and second verses consist of eight lines each, the third and fourth verses both consist of four lines each.

The main differences between the poems are that "First Love" is a positive example of love and "First Ice" is a negative example. This means that the first poem talks about the bad sides of being in love and the second poem talks about the good sides of being in love. "First Love" is about the happiness that can be made and "First Ice" is about the sadness that can come out of a relationship. The images of "First Love" give a warmer impression than "First Ice".

The similarities of both poems are that both of them are obviously about love and they are both set outdoors where the weather is used to reflect the mood. The weather is used to reflect the mood because the weather and the mood create a cold impression towards the readers.

I prefer the poem "First Love" because it has a much happier, warmer attitude than "First Ice". Although some of the words and ideas in this poem are very romantic and exaggerated, I still find it more enjoyable, partly because it rhymes. As far as I know the lady didn't reject John Clare but I think we are led to believe that she did as he says

"My heart has left its dwelling place

And can return no more."

My name is Fidel, a 16-year-old, incoming Senior at The Ateneo J Many of you don't know me, but I don't blame you guys. For the past months, I've mastered some kind of disappearing act. But kidding aside, I am just a newbie. I joined Luke the previous weekend, the nd. And well, for many reasons, I have not been showing up. If there were a beadle to check our attendance in meetings, he would have recommended me for expulsion. But we don't do that here, right? I'm one of the many who joined Luke and did not go back. Just like a sheep from a herd who wandered away from the group and let's put it this way was lost. Yup, I was lost.

What is it to lose something? For my sixteen years on earth, I have lost many things. If I remember correctly, I lost my red Ferrari red Ferrari matchbox that is when I was about four or five. It was my favorite car, and I threw on a major tantrum. I got all mad and bratty. The next day, my yaya handed it to me, saying she found it stuck at the headboard of my bed. And I was back to my old self again. I also lost some Lego pieces, some Voltes V arms, some reports I typed all night and got erased when my computer broke down, my cellphone, and well, like most boys, I lost some girls too. Through the years, the fact of losing different things have changed the way I have experienced losing something. To some extent, it has become more overwhelming. Compare the experience when I lost some lego piece and that when I lost my Science major paper to my crammy CPU the night before the deadline.

The major losses of my lives where ones worth remembering. When I realized my paper was not on my files, my first reaction was to damn the computer. I hit it like a man-(thank God, I didn't bang on it hard enough). Then tears just spontaneously appeared out of nowhere, and I cried like a baby out of despair, anguish and helplessness. I realized the value of that thing lost. I was all "I could have saved it twice."; "I could have secured it by sending it to my e-mail"; "I could have printed out the draft"; and many more "Should'a, would'a, could'a" stuff.

I asked help and we were able to find remnants of it somewhere in my files, and I was grateful for the "rescued" four pages out of twenty pages. It was not the entire file, but the four pages were a helpful lot, and a good jumpstart to motivate me. At least, I did not have to start from scratch. Needless to say, I did not sleep that night and eventually turned it on time the next day, only to have the teacher say that she was giving us a bonus extension of three more days.

Do my essay on Luke 18 Youth Group CHEAP !

Losing something is really a tough experience. It slaps us with the realization that many things we ignore and take for granted are important. We only begin to think how they matter when we have lost them. Lucky for most of us who have lost and found things, they could correct their indifference towards that object lost and treat it with the care and attention it should have been given in the first place.

But some things are lost and are lost forever. This is a definite fact of life that we should deal with. Losing things and never finding them should not leave us in that sorry, desperate stage of search and blame. We ought to move on. And move on, with the lesson that loss leaves us with.

[ READ PASSAGE and explain ]

We don't only lose things individually. As a family, we could lose some things as well. In our family of Lukers, we have had some lost sheep. And I am one of those. [ explain your reason ].

Looking back at the time I was away from Church, I have realized that I missed out on so many things. I have been too concerned _______. [Why do you feel you should not have left and why you should come back?]

I cannot promise though that I would be present every single meeting, but you guys will see more of me. From this day on, consider me lost…and found.

[prayer]

The Internet has brought mixed blessings to the people who use it. It is a fantastic information source but the relative lack of privacy has brought forth a major problem. Anyone with even little hacking knowledge can track every move that you make while using internet services and/or view private or confidential information. It is now possible for some Internet sites can actually find information such as e-mail addresses or the name of the person/people viewing the site without authorization. This problem can affect everyone who uses any Internet services and ultimately can lead to very confidential information (such as credit card numbers) getting into the hands of criminals.

Internet services and facilities are now used and provided by many companies and individuals worldwide. Each web site that is visited could have the capability of finding out your name and/or e-mail address and sending junk e-mail or cataloguing this information and then selling it to other companies. The ISP that you connect to the Internet also has a record of every bit of information you upload or download, and must keep records for official purposes. Any sites that ask for your credit card number for pay by use or restricted services could, in fact, sell or use such information for illegal purposes such as fraud.

The actual hardware requirements for using the internet are minimal, only an internet service provider (a company that allows a connection to the internet), modem (to send and receive data transmissions through a phone line), phone line (to dial up the I.S.P,) and a reasonably fast computer (to run the hardware and software) are needed to get onto the internet. This allows almost anyone with a computer to access the Internet. Software is needed to browse or view the internet is a browser (such as Netscape Navigator, MS Internet Explorer) and for e-mail services, programs such as Eudora, Netscape Navigator or MS Internet Explorer are needed to send or receive e-mail.

Nearly everyone will at some stage in his or her lives use the Internet. Very minimal skills are needed to use the Internet, and it allows people to access an immense amount of information at the touch of a button. All a person with a little hacking knowledge needs to do to get such information is to use a Trojan horse type program and he or she can follow you around and view the information you are uploading or downloading.

Custom Essays on The internet

The fact that there is minimal Internet privacy has led to people becoming weary of what they actually do on the Internet. The people that actually provide the Internet services to uses, ISPs, keep records for up to two months on all user data transactions. This means that someone could possibly get confidential information such as a credit card number and sell the information or use it himself or herself for purchasing goods or services. This has raised some concern and there have been propositions made in many governments worldwide to ensure that acts such as these are prevented from happening, but anyone who has access to the actual server could find such information. This practice, however, could never be totally eradicated, as there are already statutes in place that demand these records to be kept.

Another factor in this privacy issue is the cookies sent to you when viewing certain web sites. A cookie is a piece of information that is sent to you by a web site and in return, it takes a piece of information from the user. People can actually stop cookies from being received but it prevents vital information from being sent to them. Some times, all the cookie does is record, on the users computer, without consent, information such as the number of times that the site has been accessed by the user. More sophisticated versions can access information from the user such as e-mail addresses or the real name of the user. Such information should not be allowed access without consent and such practices should.

Period 1, AP English

The Conscience of Reverend Dimmesdale

Before the time of even the first psychologists, such as Sigmund Freud, or Karl Jung, Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote The Scarlet Letter. Today, it is well conceived that guilt drives such acts as sleepwalking, dreams, visions, and other paranormal events; however, Hawthorne was fairly ahead of his time. He explores the conscience thoroughly, as Shakespeare had done earlier in stories such as Macbeth. In The Scarlet Letter, Hawthorne uses many literary elements, such as symbolism, syntax, and tone, to show the guilt of Reverend Dimmesdale and the guilt of his own mind.

Help with essay on Dimmesdale's Conscience

To show Dimmesdale's inner guilt, Hawthorne utilizes symbolism. The scaffold in which Hester Prynne walks represents the public humiliation she endures every day, however, one in the same, it is also a sign of Dimmesdale's own anguish. The scaffold, being 'black and weather-stained with the storm or sunshine of seven long years, and foot-worn, too' shows the tortured Dimmesdale in context, as if the scaffold is a sign of his own self-torment. Even though Hawthorne utilizes symbolism as an important factor of displaying Dimmesdale's guilt, another important factor is tone inside the passage.

The tone and attitude that Hawthorne takes to describe the scenario in which Dimmesdale is placed in, however monotonous and verbose it may be, is quite informative. Every guilt trip that Dimmesdale rides on is detailed and vividly portrayed by Hawthorne. In fact, mid-way through the passage, Dimmesdale questions himself, asking 'why, then, had he come hither? Was it but the mockery of penitence? A mockery, indeed, but in which his soul trifled with itself!' showing Dimmesdale as a bit of a paranoid character through Hawthorne's paranoid tone. Not only this, but Dimmesdale also has Remorse and Cowardice on his tail as well, and through Hawthorne's usage of tone, Dimmesdale is quite well portrayed as a tortured and slightly paranoid man. However, the final component to Hawthorne's graceful description of Dimmesdale's guilt would be his thorough use of syntax.

Even through the very script and syntax that Hawthorne uses in The Scarlet Letter shows the inner guilt of Dimmesdale. He utilizes syntax to create a suspenseful mood, displaying the 'obscure night of early May...unvaried pall of cloud[s] muffl[ing] the whole expanse of sky from zenith to horizon.' By doing so, Hawthorne creates the atmosphere that Dimmesdale is alone where he stands, that the entire town is 'all asleep.' It is similar to the trite line seen many times as an example in literature, such as 'it was a dark and stormy night.' Hawthorne also tends to be verbose, and uses this method of syntax to his advantage. Instead of stating that 'the minister had stood there in danger of catching a cold' rather, it is the 'minister might stand there, if it so pleased him, until morning should redden in the east, without other risk than that the dank and chill night-are would creep into his frame, and stiffen his joints with rheumatism, and clog his throat with catarrh and cough; thereby defrauding the expectant audience of to-morrow's prayer and sermon.' The very words and the very positions that the words are placed in shows Hawthorne's utilization of verbosity as a major tool and a trump card for syntax.

Ultimately, Dimmesdale comes to the realization that he is at hand and at fault for Hester Prynne's misery. However, there was not much he could do about it, for the society had already condemned her. The thought remains and engages into Dimmesdale's mind, 'What could I have done to save her?' Hawthorne utilizes this to show and display that indeed, the human conscience is a very delicate aspect in literature, and not to be taken lightly.
