The Character of Linda Loman in Death of a Salesman
Linda is the heart of the Loman family in Arthur Millers play, Death of a Salesman. She is wise, warm, and sympathetic. She knows her husbands faults and her sons characters. For all her frank appraisals, she loves them. She is contrasted with the promiscuous sex symbolized by the Woman and the prostitutes. They operate in the world outside as part of the impersonal forces that corrupt. Happy equates his promiscuity with women to taking manufacturers bribes, and Willys Boston woman can put him right through to the buyers. Linda Loman holds the family together - she keeps the accounts, encourages her husband, tries to protect him from heartbreak. She becomes the personification of Family, that social unity in which the individual has real identity.
The concepts of Father and Mother and so on were received by us unawares before the time we were conscious of ourselves as selves. In contrast, the concept of Friend, Teacher, Employee, Boss, Colleague, Supervisor, and the many other social relations come to us long after we have gained consciousness of ourselves, and are therefore outside ourselves. They are thus in an objective rather than subjective category. In any case what feel is always more real to us than what we know, and we feel the family relationship while we only know, and we feel the family relationship while we only know the social one.

(Arthur Miller, The Family in Modern Drama)
If Willy is not totally unsympathetic (and he is not), much of the goodness in him is demonstrated in his devotion to his wife, according to his lights. Though he is often masterful and curt, he is still deeply concerned about her I was fired, and Im looking for a little good news to tell your mother, because the woman has waited and the woman has suffered. Biff is attached to his mother, and Happys hopelessness is most graphic in his failure to be honest with, or concerned about, his family. The familys devotion to one another, even though misguided, represents a recognizable American ideal.
Linda, for all her warmth and goodness, goes along with her husband and sons in the best success-manual tradition. She tries to protect them from the forces outside and fails. The memory of her suffering and her fidelity does not keep Willy and Happy from sex or Biff from wandering. Millers irony goes still deeper. While Linda is a mirror of goodness and the source of the familys sense of identity, she is not protection - by her silence and her support, she unwittingly cooperates with the destructive myth. Linda follows the rules laid down by the self-help advocates. She is a good home manager, she understands and encourages her husband, she keeps her house neat and is a good mother. Babson recommends a good wife as a major factor in working towards success A good wife and well-kept house and some healthy children are the utmost importance in enabling one to develop the six Is of success and to live the normal, wholesome, upright life. Linda stays in her place, never questioning out loud her husbands objectives and doing her part to help him achieve them.

Mark Schorer classifies Nineteen Eighty-four as a piece of kinetic art "art [that] exists in order to demand;" people must either abhor the content of the material or love it for it to be fully understood. Although he gives the book it's credit for being a potentially powerful novel, he believes that the impact will wear off soon after its publication (in 14). This novel, unlike George Orwell's earlier book Animal Farm, is not a satire at all towards political future predicted in the book. Rather, it is an exhortation against totalitarianism and the British socialist party. Orwell uses sensory details to portray a time when people have lives that contain no sharp edges; the majority of the people in this society do not feel any highs or lows, because the government carefully monitors all enjoyment. The physical descriptions of Winston Smith and his depressing life alludes to the moral questions in the book about how much power should a single person or group of people have over the lives of an entire nation. The purpose of the book is to forewarn about a society that depletes us of our natural born rights. Schorer believes this book to hold a direct correlation with Lord Acton's apothegm "Power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely…"
184's extreme depiction of government control is viewed today as a warning to what our own governments are evolving into. Winston Smith, the hero of the novel, represented "the last man" in a society that has lost its touch with humanism. In his mind he holds two hopes for the end of the rule of Big Brother in the proles and in human desire. The majority of Oceania's population is the proletariats, and if they could see what a revolution would amount to, then they would ultimately proceed in having one. Unfortunately, they cannot understand the need for an uprising, because they lack the intelligence to see it on their own. Human desire then becomes the only way to end totalitarianism, because it is the one thing that their government cannot control. This however makes it a thoughtcrime, rendering it illegal to give into those emotions and instincts. The simple act of having sex that Winston and Julia commit then becomes a rebellion against the Party, but the control of the Thoughtpolice eventually puts an end to it. Through the use of the Thoughtpolice and Telescreens, the government is able to have complete surveillance over all the Party members. What separates the Party members from the proles is the amount of surveillance that they go under. Orwell modeled this after the Soviet Union's division of society in 148, where their government workers were closely monitored, while the rest of the population was not. In the end of the novel, Big Brother is able to conquer the "last man," ending all hope of an overthrow of his reign, leaving a lasting warning of the rise of totalitarianism.

It Is Up To Me
It is important to know where you are going in life. It is equally important to know how to get there. The likelihood of reaching the goal(s) is greater if the goal is known. The more success in setting a goal, the greater the probability there is in reaching the goal. I recall illustrating in a sermon once delivered the concept of planning the work and then working the plan. That is the mentality needed to truly reach the goal(s) set.
An optimist expects the best possible result or and focuses on the most favorable aspects of the situation. Pessimists stress the negatives and take the gloomiest possible paths. Everyone has been afforded the opportunity to choose which road to take in life. I believe it is up to me to decide.
Upon those precepts, I decided to enroll into the University of Phoenix (UOP). After enrolling, I knew it was necessary to have an obtainable goal, have some plans in place, maintain focus, and do my best. I have decided upon several goals, three of which I believe is more obtainable and most advantageous and beneficial to me at this time in my life. I want to obtain a degree. I want to increase my knowledge of a subject that is conducive to my pursuit of life's comfort and happiness. And, I want to make practical the standard I teach my daughter, which is, education first.
Write my Essay on It Is Up To Me for me
I researched and evaluated several possible paths and decided that I wanted a degree in the shortest possible time. Enrolling at the University of Phoenix was the easiest and most expedient way of obtaining a degree for me. In addition, while in pursuit of the degree, I still need to be available and accountable to my family. No other institute of higher learning could provide these crucial components. I realized enrolling at UoP would be most efficient and convenient. Moreover, the teamwork at UOP is what I need. At my age and with my intense involvement with my family and church, I believe teamwork is inevitable for my achievement as a student at UOP.
As a student, I want to increase and broaden my knowledge of business management. My wife and I have given great consideration and intense thought to establishing a business of our own. We know what we want to do, but feel that more knowledge is needed for a smooth operation. She is graduating in a couple of months with a BSN from Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, LA. We both feel that I would benefit most with the business degree. I examined the core curriculum for a business degree at UOP. I compared it to other universities within close proximity and UOP, in no uncertain terms, was the school of choice. Because of its unique method of teaching instruction, the degree is relevant, reliable, and rewarding.
I decided to enroll at the UOP for the benefit of my daughter as well. My goal is to set an example by obtaining a degree. She knows that at one time I attended college. She also knows that I did not complete my studies. I, along with my wife, stress the importance of education. I instill in her often that the more education an individual has, the more marketable / selective the individual becomes. I tell her that a degree is resourceful.
These personal goals are by far not unattainable. However, much work is required. I embrace the old adage, 'anything worth having is work working for." I will make great efforts to achieve the personal goals I have set. I am up for the challenge and have purpose in my heart and mind that if it will be, I will be up to me.

During the 16th century, Europe was influenced by many rulers. Henry of Navarre, Elizabeth I and William of Orange are three that come to mind. Politiques were people who put political survival above religious unity. However, they did not just change how Europe was politically but how it was culturally also.
Henry of Navarre, also known as Henry IV, would be considered a politique because during his reign he converted to Catholicism because he knew that he would be taken more seriously by the masses. However even after becoming Catholic he passed the Edict of Nantes to give his Protestant brothers freedoms much like Charles V did with the Peace of Augsburg. Elizabeth I is considered a politique because she helped form a "truce" between the Catholics and Protestants. She merged a centralized Episcopal system, which she firmly controlled, with broadly-defined Protestant doctrine and traditional Catholic ritual. Thereby creating the Anglican church and some semblance of religious peace in her realm. William of Orange would be considered a politique because he assisted greatly in the Compromise of 1564 in the Netherlands. Also by helping and persuading the northern Protestant regions of the Netherlands to join with the southern Catholic regions of the Netherlands to help eliminate Spanish rule.
Political survival was the top priority of all politiques of the time. Religion had been a problem for far to long. By having a ruler that was not so involved with having their country all one religion, the politiques believed that the political view of their country would be changed. All three rulers saw, during their reign, that such change did indeed occur. Henry of Navarre's edict made sure of the beginnings of religious freedom in France, and Elizabeth I continued that tradition in England. This separation of these countries' religions from that of the ruler was a great step in the establishment of what would become the American tradition of separation between church and state. William of Orange was a Protestant in a very Catholic country. His flight to the Netherlands brought about the Compromise in the Netherlands that helped them eliminate Spanish rule of the Netherlands.
With their leaders not overly concerned about religion, the common people, artists and musicians were allowed to express themselves in many more ways than previously. The Baroque period in architecture and music was a combination of extremely ornate and very simple styles. The Catholic church and the rulers who subscribed to that religion built ornate and elaborate churches, while the politique rulers allowed poets, musicians and other craftsmen freedom to express themselves in ways that would not have been allowed under a strict religious reign.
In conclusion, the politique attitude of self-preservation helped pave the way in 16th Century Europe for the coming of the next wave of reform. The willingness of the rulers to place their political careers before their religious beliefs allowed the culture and economics of their respective countries to survive and even thrive. The Baroque style of architecture, art and music, brought about by the Catholic Church to protest the plainness of Protestant worship and belief, provided work for the common laborer as well as the many artists and musicians of Europe. The legacy of rich art, music and architecture is still ours to enjoy.

XBRL stands for eXtensible Business Reporting Language that is a royalty-free, open specification for software that is XML based to describe financial statements for public and private companies. XML is eXtensible Markup Language, which is the universal format for structuring documents on the World Wide Web. Since XBRL is based on the XML format XBRL is permitted to the automatic exchange and reliable extraction of financial information across all software formats and technologies, including the Internet which will dramatically speed up analyzing financial information. It does not require a company to disclose any additional information beyond that which they normally disclose under existing accounting standards. This makes the analysis and exchange of corporate financial information easier and more reliable. With XBRL being developed by a non-profit consortium consisting of over 170 leading companies, associations, and government agencies around the world and the way it makes analyzing financial information faster XBRL has a bright future ( O'Rouke 55).
XBRL is a relatively new software application with its beginning in April of 18 when Charles Hoffman, a CPA with the firm Knight Vale and Gregory in Tacoma, Washington investigated the XML format for electronic reporting of financial information. Shortly after investigating the XML format he began developing prototypes of financial statements and audit schedules using XML. In July of 18 Mr. Hoffman informed Wayne Harding, Chairman of the AICPA High Tech Task Force, of the potential uses of XML in financial reporting, which lead to the AICPA High Tech Task Force proposing the creation of a prototype set of financial statements using XML by the AICPA. On October , 18, Wayne Harding presented his results of the AICPA High Tech Task Force to the AICPA Committee on Committee Organization, and as a result the AICPA decided to fund the project as well as creating a prototype set of financial statements in the XML format. The prototype was developed by Charles Hoffman and Mark Jewett, of Erutech, while being funded by the AICPA and was completed on December 1, 18. "On January 15, 1 this prototype was presented to the AICPA with Wayne Harding and Charles Hoffman convincing the AICPA that XML was important to the accounting profession" (XBRL.org). Shortly after this the AICPA requested a business plan be prepared that would look into the business case for XML and XML-based financial statements, with the project being code named XFRML. The business plan was completed on June 15, 1 and on July 17, 1 the AICPA Board of Directors determined to fund the XFRML project. "In August of 1 1 companies quickly joined the effort (along with the AICPA) as members of the XFRML Steering committee which included The AICPA, Arthur Anderson LLP, Deloitte & Touche LLP, e-content company, Ernest & Young LLP, FreeEDGAR.com, Inc. (now Edar Online, Inc.), FRx Software Corporation, Great Plains, KPMG LLP, Microsoft Corporation, Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLP, The Woodbun Group and Cohen Computer Consulting" (XBRL.org). On August 0, 1 the AICPA began implementing the business plan when it made public that an XML financial reporting specification would be created. Charles Hoffman completed a prototype of XFRML on October 1, 1 and the financial statements of 10 companies were created to test the concept of XML-based financial statements. XBRL is first unveiled at the first XBRL press conference at Stanley Dean Witter in New York City in April of 000. In March of 00 Microsoft Corporation becomes the first technology company to report financials in XBRL (XBRL.org).

While reading Finding Forrester, I began to conclude that this is an outstanding film. In my opinion it depicts the great benefits of friendship and learning to face your fears. It was impossible to tell who benefits more from th erelationship and that is the way friendship is intended. Jamal, an outstanding student and writer forms an unbreakable bond with william Forrester, a prize winning novelist. Both of these characters also have a fear to overcome. One has a fear of his friends learning of his talents, and the other just doesnt want anyuone to know he has any. Effectively cutting himself off from the outside word, William finds himself being pulled back into life as he helps to develop the writers voice in Jamal. Jamal finds more than a mentor, he finds a appreciative fan and true peer who inspires and challenges him to chase his dreams and become the writer he really is. In many ways Jamal does the sam ething for Willam. Jamal teaches Forrester that life isnt something you run away from, you embrace and expierance it.
I believe this movie is thitle Finding Forrester for two reasons. First, Jamal finds Forrester. He helps Forrester to live again. Jamal even takes William to a Yankees game so he could get back into socializing with others. It didnt work, even though it as a good try. Jamal is seperated from William in the crowd, the minute Forrester realizesa that Jamal has disappeared, he gets panicky and finds a closed off space to hide in until Jamal appears again. At the end of the movie, William comes to Jamals trial to speak on his behalf and the viewer then realizes that Jmal did make a breakthrough. Secondly, I believe in a ay Forrester founf Forrester. As I stated earlier in the paper, William learned to embrace life. He learns to believe in himself enough to write another novel and dedicte it to Jamal. Whatever fear it was he had preventing him from interacting with the outside world, he finally overcame it and even went back to Scotland to be with his family. It is my belief that if Jaml had not met William or vice versa, William would still be in his apartment hiding behind his window.
In this film I could see myself in Jamas shoes rahter than Williams. Jamal maintained a c average just enough to get by. My family situation is also similar to his. I come from a single parent home. My younger brother could be so much more than what he is now but he is satisfied with his position in life, so who am I to judge?
There is only one facto that would affect the outcome of this movie if Jamal was white and Forrester was black, that one factor is Richard Crawford. Professor Crawford was a bitter blowhole. He couldnt write so instead became a english teacher. Ironic or just me? He gave Jamal alot of grief over his work. Not wanting to admit that just because he was black, that didnt mean he was there just because of a basketball schlorship. I think that with all the pressure that Crawford gave Jamal, he didnt do anything but make Jamal want to strive harder to prove Crawford and anyone else who doubted him wrong. I loved the scene in the movie when Forrester stands up and says that he gave Jamal permission to write his paper and that he knew Jamal. The look on Crawfords face was to dye for.
