For my community service I helped out with a forth/fifth grade combination class at Julien Elementary School. I had to do twenty hours of community service this semester. I wanted to help out at an Elementary school because I plan on being an elementary school teacher when I am older. I thought not only is this a chance to help out my community it is also a chance to get a hands on experience with the students.

I really hope that I helped out in the class a lot. From the response I got from the students along with the teacher I think I did. I hope I made as much of an impression on the students as they did on me. They kids were great and really gave me a good example of what it is to be a teacher. I mostly helped them with math which was hard for me because of the fact that it has been a while since I was in forth grade and had to do the math they are doing. I mostly helped the students who were having trouble in a subject and need extra attention. I helped out the teacher a lot because it just so happened that the time I was there he had a heart attack and was gone for quite a while. The students had a different sub for at least weeks while I was there. Since I had got to know the students quite well during my time there, I helped out the subs. Even though I was only there for about hours a day I think I made an impression on the students.

I learned a lot about myself through this experience. I learned that it takes a lot more time then I have thought before to teach students something. They all have potential to learn, but they don't have the focus. Being so young they just want to have fun and enjoy life. It is hard to keep them focus and willing to learn. It gave me a lot of tips of what to expect and do in the future. I don't think there was a negative thing about me helping at Julien and I would defiantly do it again. Most of all I hope I helped the students as much as they helped me.
