Satirical works are one in which human vice or folly is attacked through irony, derision, or wit. Many writers like to use this to get their messages across in a not so straight forward mannerism. Satire is supposed to make you think, and analyze. Sometimes interpretation seems almost too easy, but then you dig deeper and retrieve its true roots. Satire always has a specific target, or point, it tries to get across to the reader.
One such satirical work is the infamous "The Emperor's New Clothes". It is a Horatian work which involves two swindlers pretending to create a new outfit for the emperor. The material used can only be seen by worthy folks, who are smart enough to see it of course this is far from the truth. The satirical target for this is the individuals' position in the group. People by nature, yearn for acceptance and approval in a society, and would do or say almost anything to keep it that way. One does not want to feel inferior to the others, and therefore shows a voracious desire for praise and conformity. Ironically, this hasn't changed much from past, to present, to future in civilizations worldwide. The Chamberlain, the emperor's high ranking official that he sent to check out the new clothing as it was being prepared was shocked to not see it, but he kept it to himself, in fear that he would be frowned upon.
"Inflexible Logic" is another satirical piece open for analysis. Although also Horatian, it is a bit different than the previous story. This one requires a little more thought and effort in interpretation. At a party, a professor told Mr. Bainbridge about a mathematical theory in which he strongly believed. This was that if six chimpanzees were set in a room, each with a typewriter, and began pounding away randomly at the keyboard, they would in time recreate every literary work ever made. Although this may seem a little hard to believe, it is statistically accurate. Mr. Bainbridge pondered it for a while, then put it to the test. He himself had acquired six chimpanzees and utilized them suite. These chimpanzees produced no gibberish though, only pure recreated, and naturally accidental art. Of course, this work is vastly exaggerated, and not to be taken completely serious. Ironically, when the professor saw this, he was shocked, and in denial. Although it was his own theory he thought it to be statistically inaccurate, and out of pure confusion and emotion, killed the chimpanzees and Mr. Bainbridge, only to die himself soon after. The target here is none other than people believing in something only partially. These people are otherwise known as hypocrites.
Satire, if interpreted correctly, can be a very intellectual and thought provoking activity. It raises many good points, and is quite interesting at the same time. Instead of being straight forward and open-ended, it is left open for analysis however the reader sees fit. The intelligent reader can have highly philosophical internal battle after reading a work of such amplitude.

Jefferson was an Aristocrat; he was a strong believer of the enlightment. He believed in the power of reason. Jefferson thought that farmers are the idealistic man, they worked hard, and can prosper. He believed that there should be a public education system, and even those who are not able to support to pay for the school may have a chance to get a good education. One thing he did not believe in was blacks and whites equality, but by all means against slavery. Jefferson was a politician, he has his personal goals. The main reasons he ran for presidency, to reduce the size and cost of federal government, to repeal federalist legislation and to maintain international peace. He has never vetoed a single act of congress. In order to reduce the size of the fleet, he promoted peace. He was very suspicious of standing armies. He has created the Army corps of engineers and the military academy at west point to make sure that the citizen¡¦s soldiers would receive professional leadership in battle. Jefferson doubled the size of the U.S. by the Louisiana Purchase. He sent Lewis and Clark on the expedition towards the far west to explore to see what secrets and hidden in the new lands. Jefferson ended his first term with very much popular support due to that he had maintained the peace, reduced the taxes, and expanded the boundaries. Jeffersons beliefs about religion were that religious faith was a personal experience between a man and God. It was not an issue to be talked upon before others. Jefferson never talked about his own religious experience, even to those closest to him. He believed that each and every man are born natural moral instincts and that religions only differ in traditions and they¡¦re Gods. Jefferson considered Jesus to be the greatest moralist in history. For Jefferson Christianity was the right religion, it can lead each man to fulfill his duties to other men. He believed that mans natural goodness and the unity of God. Jefferson created a government with multiple sources of sovereignty. He believed in making a prosperous nation in which independent citizens can pursue their own economic interests.
Jefferson was one of the leaders who support the constitution, as the first amendment states that all men are created equal. He contradicts himself by not believing blacks equal whites. He was also against slavery, he believed it was totally wrong, but he had many slaves, even though he freed a few house slaves, he still owned many. Jefferson believed in peace and nonviolence, but at times he would rather see the federalists disliked and hated by the population in order for him to have his popular support. In order to accomplish his goals he did not show the federalists any mercy and kept their power very limited. One of Jefferson mistakes was when France and Great Britain fought for supremacy on land and the sea. Both didn¡¦t want each other to get their resources, and American ships were sunk. Jefferson thought that by suspending trade with both the nations they would both come with a peace agreement. It did not work the way he imagined it, some Americans still smuggled goods and in order to regulated the coastal trade, the government needed to have an established police state to make it possible. Jefferson made many mistakes, which just means he is human, but the accomplishments he was able to bring to the U.S. was at a level very few can match, the contradictions were sometimes inevitable. dont have one

The novel Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury can be compared to the novel To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The main character in Bradbury's novel, Guy Montag, has many similarities to Atticus Finch from To Kill A Mockingbird. Both of these men risk their lives to stand up for what they believe in. They both go against the normal beliefs of society, and think for themselves. Although the overall themes of these books are very different, they both center on the general beliefs of the public, and their inability to see things for what they truly are. In Harper Lee's novel, the public do not see that their racism is wrong, because they were taught to believe that African Americans are inferior to whites. The people in Fahrenheit 451 do not see that books are good for their souls, because they were taught to believe that they should all think alike, instead of having books to spark debate, or to influence their minds.
First, Guy Montag is a fireman who starts fires instead of putting them out. The society in which he lives focuses on the burning of books to avoid conflicting opinions. They do not read books, think on their own, or go outside and enjoy nature. Instead, they spend their time watching TV, and listening to the radio. After Montag meets Clarisse, he realizes how empty his life is, and he recognizes the faults of his society. When he becomes curious of the books which he is supposed to be burning, he finds himself risking everything he has to find out more. Atticus Finch lives in a southern community of racist people. Although he himself is not racist, he finds himself trying to deter his children from the faults of their town. He is a lawyer who is representing a black man in a rape trial. He risks his life to stand up for what is right, and sets a good example for his children. Even though he proves the man is innocent, he loses his case because some of the other people in his town still have racism in their minds. Both of these men put their lives at risk to stand up for what is just.
In addition to the similarities of the two characters in these novels, the books' themes in general can be easily compared. In both of these novels, the public refuses to see what they have not been taught to see. If they do not wish to see what they believe is wrong, then they shall not see it at all. Although Bradbury's book deals with censorship, and Lee's novel is more focused on racism, the books are alike because they deal with issues that effect our lives every day. People, who are taught to think a certain way, will have a difficult time thinking otherwise.
In conclusion, the novel Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, can be compared to the novel To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. Both of these novels, like Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man, deal with the fact that people are unwilling to see what they do not wish to see. They ignore their own faults because they do not feel that they are ever wrong. The characters Guy Montag and Atticus Finch both stand up for what is right, even if it is risking all they have worked for, and even if it is risking their lives.

In this essay the critical approach on (Mythological and Archetypal Approach) played a big role in forming my opinion of the signet classic book, Doctor Faustus It is to my knowledge that mythology does not meet our current standards of factual reality, but unlike the 16th century which this play was presented, men like Faustus saw myth as fundamental and a dramatic representation of the deepest instinctual life in the universe.
This play is about how Faustus puts on a performance for the Emperor and the Duke of Vanholt. The main thesis or climax of this play is when Faustus two friends Valdes and Cornelius who are magicians, teaches him the ways of magic. Faustus uses this magic to summon up a devil named Mephistophilis. Faustus signs over his soul to Lucifer (Satan), in return to keep Mephistophilis for 4 years. We also see what happens when magic power gets in the wrong hands when Mephistophilis punishes Robin, who is a clown and his friend Ralph for trying to make magic with a book they have stolen from Faustus. In the beginning angels visit Faustus, and each time he wonders whether or not to repent, but the devil appears and warns him not too by tempting him of magic to posses. In the end of the play the two good and evil angels have been replaced by an old man, who urges Faustus to repent? But it is to late for and the play ends with the devil carrying him off the hell.
The main reason why I picked this critical approach is because this play has established a significant relationship to archetypes and its patterns. Such things as archetype images played an important role in this play. For example on (page , line 8) it speaks of a circle, referring to the protection of Jehovah. As an archetype image it refers to wholeness and unity. Also between (lines 16-4), Mephistophilis wants to put away with the trinity of Jehovah, by saying, Hail spirits of fire, air, water and the word welkin on (page 1 line 4). This implies to the first and second images of archetype images. Other major keys that exist in the critical analysis of this play are the number seven, which is said to be the most potent of all symbolic numbers. In the play seven is related to the seven deadly sins pride, covetness, envy, wrath, gluttony, sloth, and lechery.
The most important critical analysis images of archetypes is the Wise Old Man, which is said to carry intuitions on one hand and moral qualities such as goodwill and a readiness to help on the other. In the play the old man showed these exact qualities. This old man appears when the main character is in a hopeless and desperate situation from which only faith and luck can help him. Unlike every other good ending, it was too late for the old man to help Faustus, and he was carried off to hell. The last of the archetypes was the trickster who was portrayed as the Satan or Lucifer in this play. He was the opposite of the wise old man and his primarily a divine being.

In closing, mythology plays a universal appeal in so many cultures. It is important to use in so many ways because it gives us morals and direction in life. Different cultures use myths to put order to their society and to have something to dwell on in times of good and bad. Unlike present day we look unto the Bible for the correct way of living.

The first practical handguns were invented in the early 1500s. In the five centuries since, they have evolved into a variety of reliable designs. The reason for their existence is simple a handgun can be available when a heavier, larger shoulder arm (rifle or shotgun) would not. Although even the most powerful handgun is still limited in power compared to most rifles. The first handguns where invented for the purpose of killing people or animal. But now these days the handguns is used for sport and competition. In the Olympics there is a handgun competition for a chance to win a medal.
Banning handguns would have little impact on crime or killings because Most handgun crime or killings where committed by those who neither held licences or registered their guns.
A shooting rampage at Melbournes Monash University in which two people were killed and five wounded sparked calls around the nation for tougher gun laws.
The man accused of the shooting was a licensed shooter with appropriate permits for his handguns, it emerged today. But it was found that if a license is acquired that handgun shooters need to shoot their handguns 11 times a year at a shooting club which he was not doing. He was not shooting at a club at all.
Custom Essays on Should handguns be Banned?
The Australian Institute of Criminology found that very few of the handguns used in gun deaths were either registered or used by licensed shooters.
She said handguns accounted for a rising proportion of the gun deaths in the period 000-001 - 50 per cent - but that 5 per cent of the 68 offenders who used firearms to commit murder were unlicensed and per cent of guns used were unregistered. Australian Institute of Criminology study of firearm murders for the period 17-1 found 40 per cent were carried out with handguns - and that not one was registered.
The pattern has remained relatively the same over the years. The majority of firearms used in homicide are not registered and the offenders are not licensed
It is not the sporting shooting fraternity that are more likely to commit the crimes. It is more likely to be the criminal element.
Handguns are already tightly controlled and a ban, as has been suggested following the Melbourne shooting, would penalise those who held a licence and registered their firearms when it is not even their fault in the first place but the criminals that are unlicensed and have unregistered handguns.
It is also found that /10 shootings used for crime or killing by a licensed shooter is done by a licensed shooter with a disability.
If you impose greater penalties on handgun owners, it is not going to impact on the persons who are likely to use them in crime who will get away with keeping their handgun because he or she is unlicensed and the handguns are unregistered
What we need to focus on is more the criminal element, trafficking in firearms and the black market, maybe increased penalties for using firearms in crime. We also need to make sure who we are giving license to. There needs to be a psychiatric test to make sure that the person doesn't have a disability to make a judgment to whether they should get a license. If there was more trafficking of handguns by police there would be less crime and killings and the licensed shooters with registered handguns would be free to do there competition shooting.
