Alcohol and athletes don't mix just like alcohol and driving doesn't mix. Alcohol is a very poisonous liquid that contains many organic chemicals. Some of these lethal chemicals that people drink include ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, and others. Alcohol is a clear, explosive liquid that burns easily just like the many kitchen cleaners we have in our cupboards.

Alcohol is a very bad liquid to drink especially when you play sport. It effects many parts of your body and has a huge amount of side effects that effect you as an individual and as a sports person.

When the person drinks alcohol its passed from the stomach into the small intestine, where it is rapidly absorbed into the blood. Then the heart pumps the blood and distributes it throughout the body. Because it is scattered so quickly and thoroughly the alcohol can affect the central nervous system causing the person to become less stable and very drowsy.

Athletes these days say alcohol consumption before a race can calm the nerves making them feel less worried and fearless. The other reasons why athletes drink alcohol is to reduce inhibitions, increase mental alertness, reduce pain if any before race and reduce muscle tremor.

Even though athletes can find some positives with alcohol there also is negatives. Alcohol has been proven that it can decrease accuracy, balance, and reaction time, slow visual tracking and information processing, decrease strength, power and muscle endurance and also dehydrate the body. These side effects wouldn't help an athlete at all and it would in fact slow the athlete down especially if playing a game sport such as football.

The positives of alcohol aren't really that positive if you think about it. Even though alcohol does dull the sensation of pain that isn't a good thing. If the person cant feel the pain then they wouldn't even know its there, in this case the pain will grow worse because you wouldn't rest it or care for it.

Alcohol also contains many calories per drink, these calories very quickly add up causing the consumer to become very overweight. This will slow down the person in sporting performances and can cause he or she to become very unfit. In addition to this alcohol interferes with the absorption of many vitamins and minerals, this can slow down the processing of carbohydrates and proteins that are needed in an everyday diet of an athlete.

BUT with everything there are some positives in alcohol, drinking one bottle a day (no more) can increase the level of high-density lipoproteins or HDL's in the blood. HDLs are known as the good cholesterol and are good for keeping our arteries clear and can reduce the risk of heart disease. Even though this is a good thing I don't suggest drinking a bottle a day just for the fact of lower risk of heart disease because remember there are much more negatives than positives to drinking a bottle of alcohol. So far, this is the only real positive of alcohol to your health.

What is my favourite film and why?

Out of all the films I have seen I do not think that I could name a particular one that I could call my all time favourite. One film that I enjoy watching and have done so recently is Love Honour and Obey. The film follows the members of a London crime gang over a short period of time showing both their working and home life.

The film has one main story line and several mini story lines that run side by side flicking from one to another every few minutes. This keeps your mind on several different topics at the same time and so consequently makes the film interesting and not at all boring to watch.

There are some hilarious scenes that are just so funny to watch that they can be watched over and over again and still stay funny even though you know what is going to happen next. The film manages to make violent scenes such as stabbing and kidnapping funny to watch, which I imagine is very hard to do.

Cheap Custom Essays on favourite film

I think that Love Honour and Obey is one of the most original films that have been made in a long while. The actors keep their own names for their characters, so that Ray Winston is called Ray in the film, and so on. Throughout the film a main character called Johnny is seen every so often narrating the film and telling you information that is relevant to the storyline. He is dressed in a clown's outfit that makes you wonder all the way through, why? It is not until the end of the film that you get to find out.

There are a lot of violent scenes that have been filmed in such a way that they are funny, so that they almost contradict each other. It leaves you wondering if it is violence or comedy. The gang warfare fights are also filmed in the same way and not one person is killed even though there are a lot of guns being used and the rounds are flying around horizontal rain!

The characters in the film are all likable, even the ones that are considered as the baddies. They range from the toughest man in North London who is a large and overpowering man who commands respect to the little podgy man that every one picks on and laughs at. Even though the characters are all different they all come from the same sort of background and are in the same gang. It shows you how close they can be and how they consider each other as family.

At the end of the film the main characters of two different gangs are gathered together in a last show down. That is what you think anyway. This is the point that all the little things that have had you thinking all the way through the film come together and all is revealed and explained, the twists start to become clear and everything just falls into place and you cannot help but think that it was a clever film.

These are the main reason that I have enjoyed watching this film over and over again and will probably watch it a few more times just so I can have a good laugh. All in all it has a bit of everything that makes a good film and I look forward to seeing it again.

Socrates

Socrates was a mysterious and significant figure in the history of philosophy. He lived between 46 and B.C., was the son of a mason and was a stonecutter by trade. Except for periods of military service abroad, Socrates lived all of his life in Athens.

Socrates was well-known in the streets and marketplaces of Athens. He spent the majority of his time striking up philosophical and ethical discussions with men and women on topics such as love, politics, war, friendship, poetry, religion, science, and moral issues. In doing this, Socrates became a respected teacher of philosophy by simply drifting around the city with his students and asking questions of them and strangers. His sophist teaching style trained the young and old the art of arguing and asking questions; which, in turn, forced them to draw their own conclusions and question the conclusions that they drew. Socrates did not have a formal classroom and refused any pay for his teachings.

Socrates believed and taught his students that every person is full knowledge and the ultimate truth was contained within their soul, which only needed to be brought to a level of conscious awareness. He also believed that a persons knowledge was inborn and not gained from experience. Therefore, he felt his job, as a philosopher was to provoke people into thinking for themselves, rather than to teach them anything they did not already know. He stressed to his students the need for analytical examination of ones beliefs, for clear definitions of basic concepts and for a rational and critical approach to ethical problems. Socrates considered the soul as an individuals intelligence and ethical character.

Socrates also believed that the chief cause of evil that men do was from ignorance. He believed that through the proper development of the mind through the pursuit of truth, beauty, and goodness that the goal and purpose of human life could be achieved. Socrates also regarded popular opinion as lack of knowledge and was very critical of government. He felt that people who were chosen to govern the state should possess both intellectual and moral qualifications.

Tragically, in B.C., Socrates was accused of corrupting the youth of Athens and for publicly rejecting the Greek gods. He was convicted by a jury and sentenced to death. Friends of Socrates had planned for his escape from jail, but Socrates refused and up until the day he drank a poison cup of hemlock, he spent his final days discussing philosophy with those who would listen. Today, the only way we know that Socrates existed, because he never wrote anything down, was through some of his students' famous and well-known writings.

It is unclear whether everyone Socrates conversed with while he was alive benefited from his philosophy. It is clear, however, Socrates did change philosophy, and the way people think. He invented new ideas and new methods of teaching. Socrates died for his values, principles, and morals, which our society today, could benefit from his long-a-go teachings.

Buses vs. Private Cars

Gao Huan

As an essential part of the modern life, traffic is an important index of people's living standards. Three characteristics of satisfactory city traffic are speed, convenience and safety. For a developing metropolis like Shanghai, there are two ways to achieve this goal public transportation and private transportation, or more concretely, buses and private cars. There has been discussion as to which to promote.

Now let's look at the issue in the particular context of Shanghai. Shanghai is a leading city of China, with promising economic prospects. Good traffic is vital to individuals' daily life and the business of the city. What Shanghai needs is cost-effective traffic.

Write my Essay on private cars for me

Though recently we have built many roads and highways, the population over-density, the largely still unsatisfactory road condition and the pollution are nonetheless problems we have to deal with. So at the status quo, public transportation is a better solution.

Properly planned and successfully developed, the public bus system of a city, together with the subways etc., can move people all over to wherever they want. Designed for the public, a bus carries many people of the same route on one ride, while a private car can only carry very limited number of passengers. To move the same number of people to their destinations, there will be more cars on the road than buses, in spite of their smaller sizes. Thus the roads get more congested, the speed of the traffic is lowered and there will be more likelihood of traffic jam. True that cars can ride much faster, but when we take these factors into account, public buses save time for everyone.

A bus burns gas for many people, while for the same many, there will be many more cars burning much more gas. Therefore, buses save gas and pollute the air to a lesser degree. When the whole world is confronted with energy crisis and environment deterioration, this is an especially important advantage.

Cars are still very expensive for most of the people, considering the price and maintaining cost. Our national car industry is still rather weak; its relatively low efficiency and high cost make it impossible to render the price low enough. To prevent our car industry from being defeated by the foreign car industry, our government keeps the tariff pretty high. So the whole price level remains too high for the ordinary people. If the government ever wants to promote private cars without harming the development of the national card industry, it needs to develop our car production more quickly.

At present, when crowdedness, relatively low income level and air-pollution are unsolved, we need to put emphasis on buses. In the mean time, we need to improve the city infrastructure and car industry as quickly as possible. Then, when these problems are solved, we can gradually shift to private cars. Anyway cars are convenient, personal and the car-possessing percentage is an important indicator of a country's economic power.

Please note that this sample paper on private cars is for your review only. In order to eliminate any of the plagiarism issues, it is highly recommended that you do not use it for you own writing purposes. Question - Define and discuss two interesting elements of poetry

The Language, Image and Sounds of Poetry

Write my Essay on The Language, Image and Souds of Poetry

There are many elements that comprise poetry. Two very important elements of those are language and imagery. Poets use these techniques to entertain and capture their audience depending how they use them. They also use these elements to achieve a desired effect depending on what they are writing about.

For poets, what they write and how they write in a poem is extremely important. Language is the way poets express and dictate what he or she wants to communicate. The language used in poetry is very carefully selected. Even though there are different words having the same meaning, picking the right one will make the difference of capturing the reader or not. This is called diction and poets know all to well the value of having this skill. So much thinking goes into this process because the writer has accurately portrayed what he or she is writing about to be able to relate to the reader.

One particular poem that shows how language is used is "she being Brand," by E.E. Cummings. The poet starts by titling the poem with an incomplete title. Instead of titling it she being brand new, E.E. Cummings just leaves it sort of half way. It leaves the reader curious to figure out exactly what the poem is all about. Another way Cummings uses the language to achieve his desired effect is by breaking of the words. For example,

using the same poem "she being Brand", Cummings writes "again slo-wly;bare,ly nudg. Ing (my lev-er Right- oh and her gears being in A 1 shape passed from low through second-in-to-high like greasedlightning)." This shows a very unorthodox way of writing which makes the reader say and almost feel what the poet wants the reader feel.

Image is another element of writing that can relay a powerful message to reader. Basically an image is anything that appeals to any of the five senses. This is a technique that has a broad range of effects. Depending on what the poet is writing about, the writer can make you smell flowers or make feel you are flying and can even make you think you are actually running through a field of grass. In the "Poem," William Carlos Williams makes me feel that I am in my house watching the cat that I don't have. Another great example of using imagery is "Calvary Crossing a Ford." By Walt Whitman. He writes " They take a serpentine course, their arms flash in the sun hark to the musical clank." I feel like if I was there together with the cavalry.

It is amazing at how language and imagery can take affect on a reader. Poets have a special talent at achieving this exhilarating miracle. All and all these elements are essential and add the excitement all great pieces of writing need.
